Petition to reform the new landscape schemes

We all know these need proposals are rubbish and all the money will go to large landowners and estates, so let’s get it reformed so it gets onto normal sized farms.

Signed, defra are complicit in destroying family farms if this goes ahead, using taxpayers money to support groups that are anti farming, piting them against farmers it will one day seen as a national discrace, sadly the damage will already be done to the food supply of our nation.

don’t agree with landowners getting a single £ of taxpayer cash for anything ……. anyone wealthy enough to own land does not need state benefits / welfare payments

BUT - i do think the more land that comes out of production the less competition I have …….. i don’t care about feeding the world as much as I do my own farm profitably

Good sentiment - it will make you exactly like a pig farmer then - no subsidy, 60% of the countries pigmeat imported and as a consequence the price you receive for your products isn't enough to break even by some way.

I would have been out of business some time ago if I only relied on the pigs.

Problem is that tenants are already in a situation where they don’t really get BPS. It goes go the landowner as rent, possibly more besides. But what happens when BPS is removed?
Removal of BPS, and it’s replacement with non farming schemes that don’t require a tenant or even a farmer could put many tenants out of business. I can’t sit here and just say I’m alright Jack, because I know those tenants are some of the most efficient hardworking businesses in agriculture and I can’t accept that just shrugging our shoulders is right. I half agree with what you say about a lot of things but this issue : undercutting of tenants mainly, is just plain wrong while diverting the cash to schemes that will actually generate very little benefit at all in comparison to what we have now. I get the carbon credits angle but why then does it need subsidy if it’s such a goer.
Certainly subsidies need reform but under cutting agricultural tenants and telling them to sod off is completely unacceptable.

There is still time to avoid a catastrophe if only the folk at the top would listen or be replaced with more pragmatic people.
Brexit is done. It’s not Brexit per se that is causing the problem. It’s our ministers. With a bit of compromise a much better plan could be devised. Tenants should be the focus of assistance measures. Landowners don’t need subs. We can sell up and retire if needs be.

as a farmer i have never received a subsidy - i just facilitate collecting it for the landowners

as a land owner i have received subs - i should not have, if i’m rich enough to own land i have no right to state handouts

Farming is not currently subsidised
