im sure mr Dyson will be a farmer when hos children get his IHT bill ?

there must surely be ways to ensure sub and tax breaks reward genuine farmers (ie people dependent upon food production to live) and not people who just invest in land or have more significant other income

Putting his farm assets aside for a moment….Mr Dyson’s kids will inherit his trading business assets on the Dyson product side company shares, factories, offices, research base, warehouses etc) all with 100% tax relief.

Same is true of any business whether involved in food production or not.

Farmers always seem to get so hung up about this and it’s a cause of a lot of infighting which is sad. I think it is just because this creates an obvious divide as some are farm owners and others are tenants…..yet also as mentioned a significant majority are probably both!

Owner or tenant….both have their own struggles.

That isn’t seen so obviously in any other industry that I’m aware of. It’s true that some (non-farming businesses) do own their business premises, and others rent it….but they aren’t all chasing after the exact same land in order to scale up.

Most other (non-farming) businesses seem to be chasing customers to expand their business and increase market share. It seems a healthier way to go about it.

Farmers seem only too keen to be better than others around them (either farming more area, bigger machines, newer kit etc)….but a lot of that is just chasing ghosts.

All that really matters is consistently bettering our own businesses…..and being happy doing what we do.

please photograph things the right way up! I am sure it is possible for me to turn it through 180 degrees, if I knew how, but I don't!
Hope this helps 👍

Yes they are going that way but we rent some land and we get the payment not the land owner.
Edit: i know that the landowners obviously get a better rent because of it!
Not sure if Clive realises when he gives his subs go to the landowner speech but some rents are less than the BPS is, so in those cases he can't be right.
Also this tosh about anyone that owns land is wealthy what a load of sh1t that statement is, what if its .01 of an acre on top of a hill somewhere.
Honestly these blanket statements are fecking rubbish

generally speaking only tenancies set before subs - not representative of todays land markets, kind of highlights well how subsidies ruined and distorted things doesn’t it ! if those landlords were free to set rents today you can bet they would not be below subsidies yield or what they could earn from rewinding etc …….

even land on top of a hill has value so is therefore by definition wealth btw

You might be able to bracket it into wealth but my interpretation is an over abundance of or plentiful supply of something.

Think we could all do without any subs if we had Government that would look at securing Ag Trade Deals that favoured it's own farmers over the rest of the world's farmers , but they won't , they want sh#t , dirt cheap food for their voters

trade deals don’t need to favour uk farmers

simple consistency over equally of import standards and / or true taxation if carbon footprint would be enough

How is a taxation of carbon footprint going to allow
any government to keep inflation in check?
Goods would go up in money across the board far greater
than anything we've seen over the last couple of years.
Perhaps they would keep inflation in check by double digit
interest rates be careful what you wish for.
