Putting his farm assets aside for a moment….Mr Dyson’s kids will inherit his trading business assets on the Dyson product side company shares, factories, offices, research base, warehouses etc) all with 100% tax relief. Same is true of any business whether involved in food production or not. Farmers always seem to get so hung up about this and it’s a cause of a lot of infighting which is sad. I think it is just because this creates an obvious divide as some are farm owners and others are tenants…..yet also as mentioned a significant majority are probably both! Owner or tenant….both have their own struggles. That isn’t seen so obviously in any other industry that I’m aware of. It’s true that some (non-farming businesses) do own their business premises, and others rent it….but they aren’t all chasing after the exact same land in order to scale up. Most other (non-farming) businesses seem to be chasing customers to expand their business and increase market share. It seems a healthier way to go about it. Farmers seem only too keen to be better than others around them (either farming more area, bigger machines, newer kit etc)….but a lot of that is just chasing ghosts. All that really matters is consistently bettering our own businesses…..and being happy doing what we do.
