I've got a stihl FS85 ,,2006 ,,I don't have the use for it now but its it far too reliable to get rid of ,only use it to take the long ends of round the lawn which takes about 2 minutes a few times a year.
I keep looking at a battery makita but they are twice as much ££ as my petrol is worth

Stihl fs 100 currently out of action due to carb issue. Only does a few days a year on thick grass and brambles around tree plantations. Thinking of using aspen fuel due to issues most years. Other Stihl tools work well on the same fuel but get more regular use. Tanaka gets around 1-2 hours use per week in the growing season. It runs on the same fue andl performs faultlessly. Both about 10 years old. Old heavy Echo strimmer did over 25 years before it became hard to start and smokey. The newer ones are so much lighter.

This is another reason, I am keen to go battery. Fuel now is harder on carb parts.

Another vote here for Echo, I've had one now for 3 years and do alot of stimming and its a great machine, no vibration can easily spend a good few hours stimming. I have one with handle bars and a harness. makes so much difference and is a joy to use. It uses a tank of fuel every hour of continuous use in thick growth.

Got a multitool from parker very good but a bit heavy .chainsaw, strimer, hedgecutter, brushcuter blade + extension bar harness ect £140. Very powerful allso very happy went to it month ago started first pull .

I have a big Echo, but Stihl/Tanaka/Husq are good.

But I haven't used it once since getting the Makita cordless (36v) three years ago. If you already have any batteries for a decent make of drill etc, consider cordless. (Unless you are using it for hours every day).

Got an angle geared Stihl a few years back used it for years then last year it got nicked (I thought).
Turns out that the thieves were too idle to carry it all the way home and they deposited it under a hedge on our boundary so when we found it 3 weeks ago it had had everything in the way of weather thrown at it - Started first pull of the cord - Now that's quality.

It helps If you know the foreman of the landscape squad, he can tell by the initials on each one who's it was and if they maintained it😉😉

Anyone sell left handed strimmers?

Use one left handed and you get more stuff thrown back at you and the exhaust fires heat across your back.

An electric one could easily be engineered to rotate backwards

The Huskvarna battery range you press a button to reverse the motor. I often thought it would be handy to throw debris the opposite way.

I just bought the husky 535irxt yesterday.
Not cheap, and when I paid for it a little bit of me wondered if I should have bought the Stihl fs70c. Not now.

Strimming is now a joy. Less noise, less vibes; but the best thing of all and the reason I opted for this unit is the feed of the chord. You just press a button and it feeds out. No bump stop. So yesterday I was able to strim non stop , until the battery died. I’d say given what I was doing, I would have been 60 mins extra changing chords with a standard unit.
