Hi there.

We have a Petter PJ3 (I think!!!)engine out of a dumper, been sat for donkey years!!! It’s turning over and injecting fuel. Now, the rack rods were a bit seized when we started with it but we freed everything off. I’ve not ventures as far as re connecting the injector pipes yet as I’m over cautious of the rack linkages. Does anyone know if there’s an excess fuel setting on the rack? Can they stick and over rev? I’m used to rack controlled injector pumps using separate governor therefore am well aware of what can happen!!!

Found this on youtube and it’s definitely same engine!!!

Yes.

Looking at the injection pump, the fuel rack that slides side to side on it has a hinged bit hanging from it with a bolt through it.

Hinge this bit to the side so it allows the rack to slide right in.
This is excess fuel for starting.
It'll reset itself once it starts and picks up a little speed.

Might be worth checking you don't have a stuck valve if it's been stood a while.

Ideal. Thank you. We turned it a few times by hand first but we haven’t removed rocker covers though. What are the levers or cam arms just underneath the injector pumps for?

Yes the levers will hand prime the pumps and also can act as a stop lever. When you do fire it up using the rack in excess position make sure if it fires that it returns immediately.

Ahhha!! One is up and two of them down as it is now. Will have another look tommorow!! Any ideas what the engine can be used for? We just though air cooked engine, ideal on a pump or genny or welder etc. No need for radiator etc
