Phosphate placement for JD 750a drill

I would like the ability to place phosphate near the seed when drilling with a 750a drill. What is the best way of doing this? Happy to entertain using liquid or solid. We believe we can cut applied P rates in half if placing it near the seed and so think it's worth investing in the kit to do this. However, if liquid P products are twice as expensive this might not help a whole lot. Thoughts and advice gratefully received.

Use a front tank or possible graft second tank on the back where a lot of people put the liquid fert systems but would be the most straight forward thing to do. Or turn a 6m into a split hopper and one head for seed and one for fert could be done but again would require a change of air system bend, venturi, upstack and head and possibly even fan. Plus you would reduce the seed capacity in half but certainly easier than grafting a second hopper on the back

on a 750a liquid is the simple option but solid (DAP / MAP) is posible (@Bob lincs ??) you can get liquid clears that have P / N via Omex etc

I would speak with Simon and S&K or George Sly about liquid system either front mounted or like ours was on extended chassis

you can go the route of primary P type product metered into venturi but personally I think they are expensive "snake oil" and seem to have fallen out of fashion after being quite trendy a few years ago

I was thinking perhaps we could use something like this, but don't have front linkage on the drilling tractor.

Thanks. Who are S&K?

Yes that’s the boy if you don’t have a front linkage the other option is the rear linkage and then pull the drill from that have a look on the Horsch or bednar websites and you see the principle. Then mount 2 distribution heads on the drill and then make some secondary pipes on the coulters for the Fert or you can put y pieces in the hose just above the coulters with some air exhausts and feed it into the coulter like that but you need to balance your air flows. But plenty of people have done it with sulky hoppers on Claydons to get higher rates particularly with beans so it does work.

Monitor farm I spoke at in Scotland earlier this year had a front hopper set up with second distribution on the back of the 750a - looked a tidy solution and could be done fairly cheaply with a accord hopper etc

Thats the easiest arrangement for the coultersif you didn't want a front tank the rear tank is like this :-

or

hopefully that makes abit of sense
