We’ve just moved to H&H at Carlisle from the NFU who were considerably cheaper for the tractors and discovery. We also had quotes from Acres and DRP who were also cheaper than the NFU. Last time we looked three years ago the NFU were still the cheapest but not any more.

We went from NFU to Farmers and Mercantile a few years back, saved about 30%. All premiums seem to be going up at the moment though, regardless of circumstances.

Nfu wanted £1200 for my wildtrak. Ended up with Direct line for £500. Van insurance but not allowed to carry pesticides

Just renewed with NFU who were cheaper than Lycetts or Acres insurance for all the farm vehicles. Must admit that the pickups look dear at the side of cars and tractors.

We had our pickup written off. Our policy didn’t cover loan vehicles as we run a motor trader policy to allow us to drive anyone’s vehicles (tractors and cars) . The NFU were amazing and found some tiny small print that allowed us to claim under extraordinary business expense insurance . Our local office in Bourne have been very helpful.
have you asked NFU to better the price? It’s not always what you pay but what you get

I'd be happy to take a look at this for you. If you could forward a copy of your Renewal Invitation to [email protected]

NFU wanted £760 for my pick up insurance, so went with churchill van insurance, £283.

If Churchill will include a definitive statement that their cover will match that of the NFU regarding excess, NCB, young drivers, drivers and number of points, private use, business use, towing and the attached trailer et al then you have got a good deal there.....

I always spend an hour or two each year at our local office. That hour or two can earn (save) you £3-500!) it’s also good as you get to know the staff locally

I went with Admiral multicar for ours this year. We now have our car, house and HiLux with them and it cut the rate on all 3 by adding another vehicle. NFU wanted around £700 for it (a 2004 model) and we finished up around £250 IIRC.

From my experience the likes of Aviva, direct line, more high street names won’t cover for towing a trailer, or at least nothing over third party. I was with admiral and on renewal specifically asked if add trailer cover but they wouldn’t do it. They were a good bit cheaper but ended up paying the extra with Harold Woolgar insurance for piece of mind.
