Pickup Engine

But, you can claim the vat and various tax reliefs for your pickup and you can't for a car so for most folks on a budget the do it all pickup wins out. Legislation makes the pickup the choice of the farmer/builder who also needs a second vehicle for everyday family life when the option of buying two runarounds plus a seldom used utility vehicle is out of reach for two driver families.
You could buy a really really nice used family car, good for ten years of use, for a third of the price of a new pickup even after claiming its VAT back. Should that be acceptable.

Not sure what your point is? A pickup is totally different to your little Nissan/based small family hatch. Can your car carry a ton? No. Can it tow 3.5 tons? No. Has it an open tray back so that a handler can load a bale or a tote bag into the back? No. Does it have sufficient room to carry a 14ft gate tied to the ladder rack? No.

Apples and oranges.
And my sister says "why the hell dont you buy a puckup "
Because i dont need a pickup

Ain't no replacement for displacement, ain't no substitute for cubes.

Turbochargers are making the power from modern engines now, up to 50psi of boost!

Landrover TDI ran 8psi if memory serves me right, just to put that in perspective.

A Cummins 6BT 5.9l is easily capable of a million miles without overhaul in 200hp form in a pickup.

I wouldn't like to bet a 2 litre 250hp engine would be capable of those miles without a rebuild or 2.
But it's obviously got higher efficiency and lower consumption and emissions.

Saying that, the VW PD is capable of mega miles when looked after...

The Americans have a saying "you can't beat cube" and I guess that still holds true certainly with LGVs that have huge engines that are hardly used

A better question might be, if you don't regularly tow big weights on the road, do you even need a pick up truck?
You can get the F150 with EcoBoost 2.7's and 3.5's ,the 2.7 is compareable in most situations as the Coyote powered 5.0.

Enjoyed the day my mate turned up in a Ranger with the 3.2L in it. Told him he’d bought half an engine !!
Then took him for a spin in my 6.4L ( 390 ci ) Ford. Anything less than 4L is a milk carton.
People always ask would I not be better of with something more economical? I always say It’s smiles to the gallon not miles ?. Plus there’s just something about the sound of a v8, especially a 7500revs?

You could argue that “pickups” were never originally designed as tow vehicles anyway

They were designed for carrying a load in the back & occupants in relative comfort in the front. For which they are extremely & eminently practical
Hence the tub or flat tray on the back . . .
for carrying things . . .

obviously, we don’t do the whole trailer thing like the UK does, but anyone here in need of a serious tow vehicle generally goes for the 200 series Landcruiser or the V8 Patrol wagons . . .

What is the $80k version like?
They only sold the top luxury one here till 2012

still pretty good, just has steel wheels instead of alloys & not as high a level of trim / gadgets inside - still fairly well specced though

Just like all the 4wd utes / twin cab “pickups” - they all come in a wide range of model specification from “basic” work vehicles through to all the bling & fancy wheels you can throw at them . . .

There is a reasonable need / customer base here for things like the 200 series Toyota’s that definitely ISNT a luxury market

just like the 4wd utes . . .

There is also a need for such vehicles here too, but it isnt catered for as they only offer the high end luxury version of toyotas landcruisers till very recently.
