Looking for pickup but unsure what to go for, currently run couple of l200s . Doesn’t do huge miles . Thinking something 3/4 year old 30/40k miles or less. Crew cab spec. Thoughts are a hilux or another L200. See Navaras at cheaper money generally but wouldn’t know about them, advice ?

I could deflate you boys in the Ranger corner by telling you about a friend of mine who was on his third engine and second geabox in a 18 month old 3.2 auto wild track but it would only worry you.

Think my brothers on his 5th ranger.he had real bother with 2 of the 3.2 limited ones.engine and gearbox problems but he does a lot of miles and has a fair weight on the back.
Brother in law has just got one of those Mercedes. Nice pick up looks like a navara but hell of a lot faster

We have an 05 L200 as the farm truck - cheap and reliable enough, uncomfortable as hell and drinks like a fish. Does 4-5000miles a year, used and abused by all. It replaced an 05 Ford Ranger about 18months ago that I had from 5yo. Not quite as uncomfortable as the L200, but every bit as thirsty. Sold to a breaker with a rotten chassis.

I have a 2014 DMax, bought summer 2018 with 115,000 miles. Lovely motor, quiet, comfy, reliable, pulls well, at least 50% more mpg than the two mentioned above. It replaced a 2008 Isuzu Rodeo with a chequered history - it'd been clocked before I bought it. Didn't have it that long, it was knackered. Sold for export.

Generally we buy them about 5yo, I use them for another 5yrs, then they get handed down to farm truck for another 5, or thereabouts. Depreciation on new pickups is crazy money - I'd rather upgrade a forklift or something.
