I have found spacing the top of the boards over achieves the same result and you can also have the plough running level too. I also know someone who uses a spirit level on their plough…!
Spirit level seem a stupid idea. Unless all the fields you plough in are absolutely level it would be as much use as a chocolate fire guard.
I would have thought a tee - square would have been more use to set the legs at 90 degrees to the ground. Probably better off setting it by eye - if it looks right it is right is probably your best guide.
