How’s everyone out there getting on with keeping the numbers moving. Both weaner and finished sellers. Seems a perfect storm of reduced demand lowered abattoir throughputs and cheaper imports floating around. Email from red tractor with a few more new addons, new crop wheat prices lifting. Red tractor premium my ar5e they don’t even want the pigs. Sorry for the negativity my glass is not half full today!

Yes had enough here - destock happening. Capital investment required to meet future slurry/environment regs cannot be justified. Just sent load of sows away and after haulage etc £50 each!! Loosing money which ever way you turn.

Very badly. I produce about 500 8kg weaners per week. About a month ago the large integrator that I have sold to since November gave me three weeks notice owing to lack of space, last in first out.

Luckily a neighbour has a lot of redundant outdoor weaner kennels and they have been kindly delivering them.

Meanwhile, we are cutting the herd back from 1250 to 420 sows, culling up to mid pregnancy, and going to finish the 200 or so a week progeny free range.
Then reassess.

That is really irksome about the integrator, unfortunately they have a history of that kind of thing. I am still clinging on but the cash flow took such a hit earlier this year that my hamster wheel is spinning faster than I like. It would be nicer if the cull sows actually came to money.

I'm not so sure that the demand isn't there, I think the processing difficulties mean it is more cost effective for them to import the cuts they want.
It will be interesting to see how much pigmeat was imported end of last year beginning of this year, and also see what the processors profits are like when they are announced.
The commodity price gamblers are not going to help our situation either.

I am looking for a source of store pigs to be a regular 500 every fortnight or 1000 every 4 weeks.
Trouble is i need RT not freedom foods
Anyone able to produce these numbers long term? Will be finished indoor on slats

With pigs being cancelled/ rolled was wondering what the red tractor premium is on pigs that don’t have a market this week. Wonder if red tractor want to give us a refund for money obtained under false pretence.

Peter Crichton is talking next spring for an upturn in the market now. A long time to wait for those losing £20 per pig. Interesting to see more adverts for pig space required in the FW from BQP and xxxxxxxxx.
Might be needed to replace those leaving the industry talking to some one in the trade today said he could list 28-30,000 sows leaving the industry will be a bumpy ride for those remaining in the next few months. could be a very different industry by next summer.

It's to make room for all the weaners come through and fats not going out. xxxxxxxxx throughput down 25% so I've been told. Be surprised if there's any smaller scale farrow to fatten units left by Xmas.

It is like all sectors at the moment volatile. The difficulty nowadays is everyone is more specialist and reliant on a single sector than the good old days.
The pig job will come right it just takes some balls to hold on whilst being dragged through the sh!t.
