Pigouvian tax

Yer but nobody will buy it I don’t reckon same as the vegan and quorn type stuff sits in the shelves and rots

Exactly the response I would expect here. But you need to look much wider at how society is now being restructered and how the rules are being changed to bring in the Fourth Industrial Revolution. Start connecting the dots or it will be too late. Do you really think that these players would be investing so much money if they didn't know that's where the future lies?

Beyond Meat's net worth as of July 30, 2021 was $7.74B

Last year, the U.S. plant-based food market grew by 27% to reach $7 billion, growing nearly twice as fast as the total U.S. retail food market, according to a Microsmallcap.com report.

Arun Sundaram, senior equity research analyst at CFRA Research, said in a research note sent to GOBankingRates that the industry is on the verge of crossing from niche to mainstream, particularly as advances are made to improve the taste, nutrition and overall cost profile of plant-based food products.

“The plant-based meat industry in particular has massive upside, by our estimates, as we forecast the global plant-based meat industry reaching $100 billion by 2030, representing a 10-year CAGR [compound annual growth rate] of approximately 20%-25%,”

Wakey, wakey.

the Fourth Industrial Revolution

If there is to be another industrial revolution then it will revolve around the rapid replacement of fossil fuels with renewables. Contrary to popular belief, politicians aren't stupid and neither are the public. They know full well that cows aren't destroying the planet. If only farming's representative bodies would shut the feck up with their constant apologizing we would be in a far healthier place.

Absolutely, cattle and sheep don't add one extra molecule of carbon to the atmosphere ,they simply recycle it.Fossil fuels on the other hand........
I really hope our politicians are bright enough to see through it all.

There is going to be an interview with him on the BBC world news channel, having read the piece above on the beebs website there are a few questions that ought to be asked, but we all know won’t be.
For example, in the above article it states that a study done by the University of Michigan found that his ‘beyond meat’ plant based burgers, used 99% less water to produce than an animal meat burger, (they kept calling it ‘animal meat’, all through the article, p*ssed me off no end). The study also found that the beyond meat burger had 90% fewer emissions, and used 93% less land to produce!!
First question that should be asked, who funded the University of Michigan study, and what conclusions were they told they were supposed to be finding.
Then the figures themselves, 99% less water to produce, 93% less land to produce !!
How on earth can a product that lists among its many ingredients, peas, mung beans, beetroot juice and apple extract, use 99% less water and 93% less land than a beef burger? Unless they grow everything in fairy dust and water it in unicorn tears it is complete fantasy.
A complete, thorough breakdown of exactly how those figures were arrived at is needed, then we can expect our national farming representatives to mount a robust challenge,….oh, wait…mmm.

That's why he wants a meat tax to try and increase his sales by increasing price of his competitors

Get ready for the Pigouvian tax,

I've warned before about how fast the artificial meat business is developing. Most peole don't seem to have a clue as to how things are going to change (I'm just the messenger - don't shout at me.)

The worry is how they have the money and resources to peddle their lies and lobby governments to distort the market in their favour. If it was a fair fight I genuinely don't believe livestock would need to be worried.
The meat industry should get some figures to show how flawed their argument is and get them publicised immediately to counter-act this drip feed of assumption.

Singapore have now had 6 months of lab meat approval for human consumption. It is primarily for food security but I can’t find any references to how it has been received by the Singaporean public

A hell of a lot of VC money - tens of billions - has poured into the manufacturers of "plant based" meat and synthetic meat, and i'm starting to think that we're going to see a "food" (in inverted commas, because I really don't class what they make as food) version of the dot com bubble developing. Money piles in, companies get hugely over valued, market corrects itself, investors get their fingers burnt (oh dear, how sad!).

Where it's getting really interesting is the battles that are now taking place between the manufacturers of plant based slop and the manufacturers of cell-based slop. The former appear to be very concerned that the latter will steal their thunder, and their business.

Just a thought.....if meat sales are increasing, and if this fake meat is also selling, then something is probably being pushed out. Fruit and veg ? Haven't heard any 'five a day' campaigns lately, has that been given up on ? I'm appalled at the new thing in restaurants where you don't get veg with your main course unless you order it as an extra. This is where any environmental/ health campaigner worth their salt, as it were, should be focusing their attention, fruit and veg.

or maybe its just that the vast over population of the planet by human parasites continues unabated

Just the continued increase in consumption of processed food at the expense of real food. Natural selection will win in the end,

Saw him on BBC News this morning advertising his slop. Nothing more than an advert. The BBC allow anyone on to talk bollox, Michael O'Leary is often on too. I couldn't give a t0ss if their fake burgers were free and my food was taxed, I'm still not eating their version of the truth, my health and grip on reality is too important to me.

As Swarfmonkey says, huge amounts are being gambled by an awful lot of people. They can't all be winners, they're cannibalising themselves. When the first proper scare story arrives (and it will) the poo will hit the fan and there will be a collapse. Thankfully there seems to be a growing awareness that processed foods are harmful and that ALL of these foods are processed, ultra or uber-processed. Aint no money in plain old veg but that's what these muppets should be eating if they're vegans rather than money chasers. It's about nothing else than money.

Wakey, wakey.
That'll be the $7.74 Billion Beyond Meat that was worth $14.6 Billion early in 2019 then is it?

And what is it with people telling us to wake up? Some of us are well aware thank you.
