According to QI the other night, Rudolph Virchow, a co discoverer of Trichinella, when challenged to a duel by Baron von Bismarck, chose duel by sausage. Two sausages were presented to the duellists to eat, one containing trichinella. The Baron backed down.

Daughter and I often have interesting conversations on all manner of subjects, when it comes to the subject of meat whilst we love a well cooked steak, a succulent cow pie, well roasted chicken, barbequed lamb etc, we have reached the conclusion that overall the pig reigns supreme as the meat for all occasions:
bacon sausage and black pudding for breakfast
Pork pie, ham or sausage roll for lunch
Roast pork with crackling for dinner

In the UK, the last case of trichinosis in pork was found 43 years ago. Despite this, most outdoor pork and all farmed Wild Boar are tested for this in the abattoir, sometimes delaying picking up the carcass for days.
Mine were all wormed as I needed the liver for faggots and pate. Despite always having clean livers, they were all always tested.
So yes, you can eat UK pork and bacon "pink", but then you have to cook the crackling separately or it is soggy,
