Considering this as a way of strengthening my lower back as tractor work and to a lesser extent cycling gives me pains. Has anyone experience of pilates?

Go for it. I had problems with my back a few years ago, and the physio I went to was also was also a pilates instructor, and he gave me a few exercises to do when ever I felt my back starting to stiffen up. They work a treat, and I haven't had any major issues since.

I have tried it, it’s bloody hard work so must be good. Oh and the view ain’t bad either when you are laying in the floor a sweat mess!

Very very good for you.

I do Ultra marathon's and I firmly believe that the Pilates I do 2-3 times a week have enabled me to finish them in decent times. I rarely ache even after walking 62 miles.

Some of the exercises you can do whilst sitting in the tractor seat too.
