Cahmore Oaklea in Aussie have bred a Nudie composite, that is based on Coopworths, but just like most other cleanskin breeds they started with Wiltshire, Dorper and Collalee sheep crossed with there Coopworth ewes.I really just wanted a shedding Coopworth when I started this. They ticked all the boxes for us but didnt want to deal with the wool anymore.
Because we get paid on quantity of meat .It's something we as producers/breeders have largely ignored for decades
We concentrate on making it easy for us to produce and to grow the largest volume as fast as possible but we don't bother thinking about the quality of the end product
We then wonder why we have a reducing market in the younger generations?
Agree ---but as lamb becomes comparatively more expensive than other proteins it needs to be better quality?Because we get paid on quantity of meat .
And on carcass shape, which is negatively correlated to eating quality.Because we get paid on quantity of meat .
Understandable after 2nd world but in times of plenty like today bloody madness !And on carcass shape, which is negatively correlated to eating quality.
I ain’t producing something I don’t get paid for .Agree ---but as lamb becomes comparatively more expensive than other proteins it needs to be better quality?
I think that's why Tim likes shedders?I ain’t producing something I don’t get paid for .
Too right ---but if i can produce something that i get a premium for then it's a good deal & i think this is what the Aus. White is trying to doI ain’t producing something I don’t get paid for .
Not now. Ram lambs already ordered peeler texel cross exlanas so hopefully shedding, all the functional and maternal traits from exlana and a bit of shape so they look "right"@hendrebc try an aus white?
Just read this post again. I've never heard of Collalee sheep. Can you enlighten me?Cahmore Oaklea in Aussie have bred a Nudie composite, that is based on Coopworths, but just like most other cleanskin breeds they started with Wiltshire, Dorper and Collalee sheep crossed with there Coopworth ewes.
Coolalee were a composite developed in the 60s (I think) bred when big 30kg carcasses were needed, they contained a number of breeds but did include Wiltshire, so many of the animals were bare bellied and part peelers, they've been popular as a base for breeding cleanskins as they add size and growth which the available cleanskins in Oz lacked.Just read this post again. And get a sheep that doesn't shed properly and has terrible feet.......@hendrebc try an aus white?
