Round here they tend to work on £1/%dry matter /ton if that makes sense. But I bought some last year for a lot less.

Depends on how short the stuff is on farms locally. Doubt there will be much demand for it in my region this winter, grass yields have been on the mental side, but the quality of first cut is all over the shop.

I always find the value of silage is dictated by the amount of snow on the ground, and how little grass there is

Surplus silage is something that sells well only in one winter in three roughly. Every farm in the country will have a surplus for a couple of years and you can't give it away. Then you get a poor summer followed by a long cold winter and surplus silage is as rare as hen's teeth.
