Pitch adjustment

Well I remember a long time ago, mentioning notes on paper to one of the late greats oft talked of on here......

NOTES?....

ON PAPER?..
Red faced and incredulous whilst pointing to his head.....

IN ‘ERE.
IN ‘ERE, NE’ER MIND ON PAPER...
IN ‘ERES WEER IT WANTS TER BEE!

Used that as a mantra since. Well worth considering.

The biggest single aspect in this is not engaging with headland ploughmen whilst making adjustments. Be polite but tell them ‘too much going on here. Need to give it 100% attention’
The final statement is a bit of a two edged sword. Most of us want to encourage newcomers, and its always the fiddly bits that they have problems with. They wait till your about to do one, and migrate en mass to your plot, if you then use the "NOOO" doctrine, your a bolshie old(usually) barsteward who wont help anyone, if you stop to explain, you, run out of time, forget something important and make a mess for at least half the plot! You then go back and point out the deliberate mistakes you have made in order to instruct your questioners! Or, perhaps not!

Some years ago when I was trying to get the better of perhaps the best vintage mounted ploughman of this millenium my brother in law came to stay. A nice enough chap but an incessant talker. He insisted on accompanying me to an east midlands match where I was competing against the said champion on his home turf. We arrived and was duly drawn two plots away from the "champ". I said to my brother in law " you see that man there. watch him and ask him plenty of questions but stay well away from me." I beat the champ that day for the first time, though when confronted he said I had not beaten him. Quite possibly I had not but my brother in law may have done.
The "Champ" and I remained friends and I learned plenty from him but I did not disclose all of my secrets. :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

I agree Dave it should be IN ERE. But for chaps like me who can't do enough matches so that it becomes second nature. Then I think an aide memoir is a good second.
