Plan for staff sickness

There is a thread on the Chinese virus on the off topic section.

But if you had an illness of any type do you have a plan.?

Quite a few of my team have under lying illness problems, so I really should be worried.

Certainly if the flu bug comes, It would seem sensible not to soldier on & work through it, cos the sufferer might end up dead & not do any work.

So I need a plan, what are others doing?

Depends if quarantine introduced.

Working on the farm i don't really get in close proximity to anyone. So go to farm, sit in tractor don't see anyone. Go home, wife and kids in quarantine.

Wifes a primary school teacher, so would no doubt get it! 2 kids at primary school, 5 and 8 so they'd probably take it home too.

Just stay away from large groups of people, public places. I'm going to Costco to buy non perishable food that will last 2 weeks incase we get shutdown. Probably get some danish pastries too.

We need at least three people every day & have a team of six all living different lives. Small farm shop, small scale hay sales, daily trips to wholesale market so it will be hard to dodge it here & doubtless possibilty of all six of us ill.

Plan so far is close the business & tip sheep out in sheltered field with loads on lifeline buckets & hope for the best. Of course I hope that it dosen't actually happen. Not sure the "hero" thing will work ie working until you collapse at work. I've done that before harvesting sprouts at Xmas took a while to recover.

On the bright side, a customer who is a Doctor predicts demand for fresh fruit & veg will be very high, because that at present is the best way to avoid infection

Mr Twizzel and I both got flu last year at the same time, proper can’t get out of bed, can’t do anything flu. Everything at home got fed and watered but that was about it and even that was a struggle :wideyed:

I’m hoping my natural defences are strong enough to fight the plague. Good whole food eaten with dirty hands, no processed crap laced with sugar. Good nights sleep and only drink water and plenty of it. If I get ill then I will fence to near death

Very different to having livestock that have to be cared for .

I've a flock of sheep & a lot of horses, goats, cows, rabbits etc rely on me to supply there owners.

People will need fresh fruit & veg to stay healthy.

Arable it will be expensive in the extreme if work is not done at the correct time.

But yes it will be tougth on dairy farms. Would any of you consider a no contact policy, so that not all the team goes down at the same time. May be hard getting emergency repairs done to parlour, machinery etc.

If the country becomes a viral apocalypse, you don't suppose the more pressing issues will be a shut down of transport links?

I suppose it would not really be sci fi to consider we could be like Wuhan within the next 12 months.

We have not been informed of the effects on Chinese Agriculture, but someone must be delivering produce into the area.

I'm concerned for the business. I'm confident a few days off & I'll be fine.

But close to me

My young tractor driver would be delighted to get quarantined to his cab for 2 weeks!

Calving/lambing and spring drilling wouldn’t be much fun with flu in the ranks. I was just thinking earlier it’s going to be unavoidable (if the virus does get going properly) for us with 2 kids in school. I don’t think your wrong stocking up on food though @Chae1, must get a fresh beast into the freezer, the barter trade could be useful if the supermarkets run dry! Just look at the chaos in the run up to them being shut for a day at Xmas.

What would happen if a city was put into quarantine, do the army deliver food to people’s doors, do the people still get to go to shops? We know fine many people buy their evening meal on their way home from work.
