Purely theoretical
40acre field against roadside but secluded, 28 day notice for a general purpose shed, say permission is granted and it goes up does that help or hinder you trying to build a house on site or log cabin?

general purpose shed not a lot of help, you need stock buildings and livestock to prove a need for a full time worker living on site and it will need to be calving and lambing, its not easy but can be done now the financial test is not part of the criteria @GeorgieB82

Yes I thought you needed about 70 cows or 1000 pigs to apply for a house with good reason. A house isn't a deal breaker but living on site is ideal.
Apart from objections there isn't a reason to object to the shed?

I'd try putting the whole lot in with a house to start with, one of the reasons I got refused for a dwelling was because the officer asked why we didn't apply for a house when we applied for the first shed,

Personally I'd put in for the buildings for your stock and be straight up with them, and apply for a small 2 bed bungalow, that you can add to after.

I like your thinking.
I have always thought it was a 10 year process before getting permission, may as well start it now.

I think it still is usually, but if you're not in a rush for the building then I'd go that route. It's different if you need it for the winter though.

I was planning to do that on mine, but the agent put me off the idea.

A brand new farm has been established on a previously bare block of land near here, everyone was very sceptical as to the success knowing the local planners penchant for refusing everything on principle, but it was passed and is now fully operational with livestock buildings. I think you need to use a really good planning consultant which I understand was the route in this case.

Sort of related, we were encouraged to put in for our yard, track, new entrance and temp residential (mobile home) on the same app. (it worked)
