Please refresh my memory- are livestock sheds ok under PD? Would a general purpose shed , (seasonal lambing use) , be restricted if you wanted to house livestock at later date?
Livestock sheds qualify as long as:

You're not in a national park

You haven't had PD rights removed

The building won't be within 400 metres of a "protected dwelling" (basically someone else's house)

Not within 1 1/2 times eve height from a public road

Not within 5km of a licensed aerodrome

Everything except the 400m from a house:mad:

That’s quite a significant jump, and a decent saving in cost/hassle for larger buildings. Any links to the details?
So would I as just about to put an application with in days for a 800 square metre floor print building that I require urgently to meet my milk contract and the current planning application fee is around £3500 and I am well over 400 metres away from the nearest non agri property .
I have spoken to my local cc planning department and have yet to receive confirmation after both phoning and emailing.

Hmm. Wonder why they are not responding? Could it be the thought of the loss of £3500 and the fun of making you jump through piles of hoops?

sorry to post this again but I would appreciate thoughts:

if you have a shed that was erected under PD as a general purpose shed would you have to apply for permission to use that shed for livestock at some point in the future? If so, under what category- change of use? Likely cost involved?

If it is within 400m of a protected building (and the other usual PD stipulations) then it would need change of use (otherwise it is still PD). It would still be in the use class agricultural but described use would be changed. I am not certain and without making an enquiry to the council I could not confirm this but I think the fee would be £96 which is the fee for knocking down and rebuilding an agricultural building with no increase in footprint.

One thing to be mindful of is that the PD was permitted on the assessment of need, if that was only a short time ago then the council will most likely want justification as to why you would in their eyes be using the PD and then subsequent change of use to avoid what would have been a much higher application fee. They may also remove your PD rights when granting such a change of use.
