Has council tax been paid on it? Do they know it's empty? Can it be lived in at all in current state?
Yeh they know it’s empty because they are now charging double council tax on it

Don’t lose the Habitable status it will be a hell of a jobPlease feel free to drop me a message if you don't want to give out too much information on a public forum but; why has it been empty for so long? Has the farming operations changed so the staff aren't required? What are your plans once it is done up?
I would seriously consider trying to get the AOC removed (or relaxed) before doing too much to the property but for it to still be classed as a dwelling it must still be habitatable.
Definitely, never let a property fall that far into disrepair.Don’t lose the Habitable status it will be a hell of a job
I am slightly biased but I would say get a professional to do it. But ... as a forum member my impartial advice is that if it is straightforward and have accurate scaleable plans then give it a go yourself. But if you are in a conservation area, AONB, Flood Zone or any other sensitive situation then get a professional on board.Hello all just wondering is it a big job to apply for planning permission for a agricultural Machinery shed or is it best to get a professional to do it?Thanks.

What sort of professional? A planning consultant? If so, please check they are RTPI registered or at very least a chartered town planner, if not then you are paying for nothing. For that price they should be providing a planning statement, completion of the forms and acting as your agent throughout the application process.I’m getting the shed company to do the drawings. And yes it’s a straight forward shed. Just know what way to go about it really. What should I expect to pay for a professional to do it? So far I’ve been quoted £450-£550
Can you not use the permitted development route as it’s a machinery storeHello all just wondering is it a big job to apply for planning permission for a agricultural Machinery shed or is it best to get a professional to do it?Thanks.

No as in Prior Approval under the Part 6 of the General Permitted Development Order 2015. It allows some agriucultual buildings to be errected without planning permission. BUT, I notice you are in Cornwall and you have a lot of AONB's and National Parks down there which restrict this option. Please feel free to message me if you want more advice. As in outline planning?
A bit of a grey area really. If you're going to use them long-term for storage of feed and you have no intention of moving them then you would need permission but if your intention is to have a moveable feed store then you do notWould shipping containers be classified as a temporary structure and not need planning if using for feed storage? Can lift them and move 20 yards with telehandler if anyone with a clipboard comes knocking?
It’s a very simple procedure and inexpensive , If you can justify the building with A genuine agricultural need and it’s under 1000sq meters there is no reason it shouldn’t succeed unless this process is not available to you due to your location as explained by GeorgeAs in outline planning?

One tip I’d give if thinking of having a go yourself is to look on the councils planning portal where you can see other folks plans, it will give you an idea of what is needed. Thanks! Il look into it.

When I looked for inspiration several years ago I saw everything from some very professional drawings right down to some sketches that looked like they’d been done by a 5 year old. They made my best efforts using a ruler look almost professional.
