? Planning permission needed for gas bottles

I recently bought a small holding with a grade 2 converted barn.
The cooker is an electric hob and was left by the previous owners and is clapped out.
I want to replace is with a gas range - but there's no gas supply and it'll need propane bottles which will need us to make access through the kitchen wall for the pipe, and to store the bottles and provide a shelter - do I need planning permission?
I emailed the council to ask their advice but they were as useful as a chocolate teapot and told me I can pay £60 for a planning officer to look at my query.
Would rather not!
All advice gratefully appreciated, thank you!!

I remember a local builder telling me about the problems he had, there was a area on the side of his house that was a natural place to extend the roof to store logs, can't remember if the house was listed but when it got reported to the planning department it caused all sorts of problems, so I know everyone on here says just do it, but I would err on the side of caution and ask or stick with an electric cooker.

Well it's not a crime to break planning rules. But it is a crime to not comply with an enforcement notice.

For something minor like a gas bottle shelter, I would just do it. Anything that requires substantial investment and is difficult to reverse, I would get planning permission in advance.

Oh yeah, what was I saying? Get induction hobs.

I've lived with gas but now have induction. Induction are waaay better - almost as quick to heat, much more responsive, easier to clean and can have clever setting that detect the temperature of the pans etc.

You will only need two 47kg bottles with an automatic changeover valve so their shouldn’t be an issue.
