As the title says after a budget plasma cutter, no need to cut much more than 6mms plate, farmer/fabricator friendly, it's not going to be used every day just when I have a project on the go, fed up with paying for gas.
Any suggestions appreciated(y).

We got a small sip one for ocasionl use , dont use it much but its proper handy when we do , works great for us but not a use everyday tool .
i would suggest that if your not using it much buy one your compressor will have the capacity for , they do use alot of air so pointless getting one your compressor cant cope with and consider the plug ours is a 16 amp one so wont work on 3 pin plug if you dont have a 16 amp circuit in the workshop or the right size compresssor for what you buy it could make what seem like a good deal for ocassional use a pricy buy

If you have 16 amp requirements like mine, I just used 2 phases off the 3 phase but do now have a dedicated supply, agreed on compressor requirements but again depends on how much you use it.

I got the 50amp r-tech last year, use it 3/4 times a week and no complaints so far. And half the price of the hypertherm!

Had a r-tech for a couple of years, only use occasionally now as bought for a specific job. Have been very pleased with it should run of 16amp supply which I do.

Where are you getting your gas?

Couple places locally are doing the buy-the-bottle then just pay refill type deals.

I got a plasma a few years ago for similar reasons........still use gas just as much, really they are different tools for different jobs.

Plasma obviously better for new steel,
And safer than death trap 9" grinders ......another reason we got plasma.

Consumables are also quite expensive, esp till you master it, I still haven't! so get through rather alot of the bits on the end!

All said.......it is uber cool

Mine is from plasma part

Mine is from plasma part
BOC.
If I used it more I could justify it, may look Into buying a bottle then!
Refurbishing a west spreader and I want to do atidy job on the auger flights, fed up grinding up stuff all the time, hence after a plasma, have used them in the past just haven't had the impetus to get me own:rolleyes:. Someone said I'm to tight:whistle:.

Another happy r-tech user here. Got a P40HF which has been superceded by the P50HF. Claimed 16mm severance, but I have cut through 20mm plate several times. Just make sure it has a fresh consumables.

Only thing I dislike about it is the wire stand offs. The hypertherm torches with the stand off integrated in the sheild are a lot better, but most of the time I run mine without a stand off or a stand off with most of the ends cut off.

Had one of these a couple of years now: http://www.technicalarc.co.uk/index...page=flypage.tpl&product_id=63&category_id=59

Tec-arc claim the 65 I bought cuts 40mm. It certainly appears to on the video but I've never needed to cut that thick personally. I can say it certainly cuts 20mm clean though no problem at all. Before purchasing I tried a Hypertherm powermax 45 plasma and although very good, this single phase Tec-arc Opti-cut 65 machine was more powerful, British made at York and was the same purchase price as the Hypertherm. It maybe too expensive for the op's requirements, but I could certainly recommend them for the more frequent user.
