I started a new job in June, for a large estate farm. I've ploughed about 50 acre so far for reseeding, good at keeping it straight and things but after some advice on when you get to the other side and head leads when you are ploughing too the dyke. On the head leads I turn the soil over twice to leave a level finishing but it's the last run up against the dyke I'm not so good at so any advice would be great. Also after some advice for when we finish harvest and start drilling cereals never been on a drill so any tips and hints would be great! Thanks in advance!

Once you reach the other side ,,turn your gorings in an finish on the dyke top ,,depending how many headlands you have ,2 minimum,,turn one out and the other in ,,that way next time its ploughed ,you can start on this years finished side ,,aslong as its not like dogs hind leg ,,and then with the head ,turn them oposite way from this year ,,can you make any sense of that

I used to plough atleast 10 inches ,,if I went deeper it pulled up alot of fowl yellow sand ,,strong land at 10inch max was enough .
Was using 5 x 14inch slats which were brilliant on heavier ground but not so clever on the fluffy sand we had .

If you're ploughing endrigs into the field ( to leave the hole at the fence) I used to plough the first round out the way lightly, then plough it back in, this helps keep it level.
When you get to the fence, and have less room to plough than you need, lightly plough back to the fence, then plough away and it will keep everything level and tidy.

Ploughing looks good and its easy to go a little deeper if needed. Great to be able to turn a shallow sod like yours. Lads round here drive across the last run, if its taking the look off the field. Not ideal but .........

Manual spacing on the drill Lewis? So the bout markers will mark to the center of the bonnet on your next run (worth asking)? If so, a pointer stick in the weight frame, or front top link in line with the center of the bonnet might get you in the swing of things. Line her up and away you go, nice and steady.
What drill you using?
