Hope we don't loose any one, taking a year out is the least we can do to protect them all

Its more of a case of another year older and most bering inactive for that time

Motivation and commitment to keep kit in order including towing vehicles is a challenge for no return of enjoyment

I can't see things changing much re the virus we just have to do stuff differently to avoid it.

Its not a rant at those that cancel its more long term view that even with a vaccine the virus does not disappear

Its not the ploughmen who are cancelling these events its the organisers

The feedback I am getting at the moment is that the ploughmen are willing to change the way a match is run if it means an event can go ahead

As I said originally a year is a long time in a ploughing season.

I fear it will be next to impossible for ploughing matches to run in the traditional way and those who do might not see dome of their regular ploughmen and top ploughmen who may stay away for their own well-being if other competitors are coming from far and wide.

Personally I think the way forward is you could hold ploughing matches as fun days with no judging and no spectators but with other strict guidelines namely make matches open to locals only surely if we keep everything local either by county or even closer by say a 30 miles radius of the match field. The latter is probably better as you vary the distance to keep the numbers to about 30 ploughing regardless of class all socially distant and bring your own food charge an entry fee allowing a bit extra for a local charity and donate the profits to that charity. You don't even need to stop at one ploughing event you could host several locally or lots spread across the county almost and although it may not be as many as normal for some that travel by you could still manage to get a good few matches spread across the winter and spring hopefully if we continue to keep the cases of Covid-19 falling and there is no second wave. If like-minded ploughers from every county banded together and each county managed to hold lots of matches it would negate the need to travel to matches in fact if some still tried to plough in matches in a neighbouring county they shouldn't be allowed under this plan or it would wreck the whole plan to keep Covid-19 suppressed and would mean a good proportion of us wouldn't feel we would have to give up our sport more or less for the best part of a year till we feel more comfortable
.
I know my idea is really just wishfully thinking and will seem radical to some but think of what the alternative might be like. I am genuinely interested in what others thoughts are and what ideas others have as well.

I'm keen to plough but I'm more keen to stay healthy and not bring any virus back to my home and elderly parents, so just like the ploughing associations and society's I'm sitting on the fence but mostly on play it safe side. I think many of the choices will be taken away from me which makes reducing the risk easier, I may well just plough at matches inside my county this year may be only a few of them I just don't know but I don't see a regular ploughing season by any means so that's why I've been trying to think outside the box away from the traditional matches.

You are right to say some matches won't see some top ploughmen again that was my point in above post above

I along with some fellow ploughmen are holding 2 matches this autumn

Covid compliant no restrictions on travel but some strict on field rules

We have plenty of judges wanting to judge

No spectators

No general public

Local council have given verbal go ahead for more than 30 people as long as we social distance and can track and trace

We plan online entry and payment

No presentation on the day but results posted online same day, prize cards sent in the post.

Insurance company happy to provide public liability

Toilet companies provide whats needed by law.

A ploughing match run by ploughmen for ploughmen, we realised quite early that many matches would cancel as their right to do so.

Ploughmen will decide if they want to plough but going by reaction when we announced we won't be short of tractors in the field.
