Made a comment three years ago about lack of information re. ploughing matches. Missed two last weekend, Herts and Suffolk. Saw post match reports but no advance information. Trying to get grandson interested but I suppose you tube is better than nothing. Surely young blood is necessary for the healthy continuation of any organisation.
Getting the same feelings that I had in 2018, it's all a bit clubby and spectators aren't encouraged. The majority of the entrants in the last match I went to were all getting on a bit., they won't be ploughing for ever.

At 76 I have just retired and notice that, as soon as you get out of the loop, the info dries up. Go onto the Society of Ploughmen website and look up local matches. Norfolk now seems defunct but Cambs are up and running, Haddenham,Willingham and Cottenham. Where do you live? PM me and I may be able to help with contacts.

Spectators haven't been encouraged due to the coronavirus, its changing now though. There are lots of matches posted on Facebook "match ploughing" and "competition ploughing" groups. SOP website only posts matches that people tell them about or are affiliated so many are missed. Facebook and word of mouth tend to be the best routes. People do post them on here though...

It is a sad state of affairs when some participants in sports and hobbies take it so seriously that they forget to encourage new entrants to those sports and hobbies .
Every one has to start from scratch , the courage to take part has to be encouraged, of course we may make a pigs ear of our first endeavours , but hey ho at least they have had the courage to have a go,more so than the critical spectator who may have never tried that sport or hobby in their lifetime. :banghead: :banghead::rolleyes:;)

I've recently starting ploughing European Reversible at matches local to me in Staffordshire. All of the lads who already compete in this class have been really generous with their time, suggestions and tips to help me get started, as well as a couple of people who judge this class regularly. So for me, I've only had encouragement.
