Polaris Ranger EV second hand. Worth a look?

As the title really. A local dealer has a 2012 plate one in the yard. New batteries. The transmissions and suspension aren't renowned for their longevity. The gamekeepers have had a couple and they have spent a lot of time in bits but they were in them 12 hours/day for years. I wouldn't say that gamekeepers were the kindest to machinery either!

I only need it for spraying sterile strips and slug pelleting. My Honda TRX 420 quad bike was nicked recently. It towed a small trailer with a big Stocks Fan Jet Pro Plus that needs 40+ amps to start it & 8-10 amps to run it. It's probably only used 10 weeks/year and not extensively then either.

I did fancy one however found these.

Chinese but seem to be quite well made, can have lead acid or upgrade to lithium.

Basic models with lead acid batteries for around £8k.

Seem very good value.

Ep Barrus only sell good stuff. They are the uk agent for Kawasaki engines and cubcadet. They would have tested it before offering it.

They are quite intriguing but from the experience of having one here for a few days I think the batteries wouldn't last for 20ha of slug pelletting. It was a great little vehicle for just getting around but if try to use too much speed or power the batteries are soon used up.

As you know Brisel I drive a polaris ranger for avadexing .An alright tool if looked after . The driveshafts are a bit weak and rear diff also . They are all that have had to be replaced over the last 3 years . Parts are dear from main stealers but plenty of stuff can be found a lot cheaper on the internet .
It is probably better to use a ranger for spraying etc at least you have a bit more operator protection . I would think if you are all ready running 2 on the estate another of the same would be sensible then you can have the same parts in stock .
I agree with you that gamekeepers and vehicle maintenance are two words that don't go together . Most wouldn't know what a grease gun is some don't know what a dipstick is either .

The last Polaris is about to leave the estate - not a ringing endorsement for them! It's too big for what I need really & if the batteries won't last half a day then it's no good to me anyway. I just saw this advertised locally & wondered what Polaris electric vehicles were like.

A stocks box for sluggies works ok on the ranger. You can always fit a 622 battery in the back and have it wired up to charge from the alternator so you have more in reserve if worried.

The old setup was 3 x 75 Ah batteries wired in parallel to run the pelleter. There wasn't enough oomph in the quad battery to run it. I had a plug running from the quad to trickle charge the batteries via high power rating 4 ohm resistors but in reality I don't think much current went back there as the voltage difference wasn't big enough. I'll sort a split charging circuit next time to keep them topped up on a long day of pelleting.
