Ok,probably not long term but in the short term the pound is weakening all the time, meaning higher prices for everything and with harvest fast approaching I cant see too much wrong or is this too simplistic? Not good for new machinery prices I know, but as long as JC is kept out of number ten, farmers may do ok.

The best thing to come out of this is that the UDP will have, as one of their primary goals in terms of propping this Government up, the interests of NI farmers. What's good for NI farmers is good for us. Without the UDP's agreement, they are dead in the water, so I'm fairly optimistic [for once].

Who is the UDP?

That's them! Irish. Loyalists and very much left of centre conservatives.

Only downside is that they are god-botherers, as many people are in certain regions, mostly regions where trouble and violence tend to follow whether East or West.

Not wishing to be pedantic but I believe the DUP are generally regarded as being very much on the right wing of conservatism rather than the left of centre.

I beg to differ. They are very conservative when it comes to things linked to morals and religion but quite lefty when it comes to spending on social issues, pensions and industry from what I've seen during the past few days. They are pro-Brexit but want a very soft one that doesn't disadvantage them on the island of Ireland with hard borders and immigration checks and border controls etc.

It will be good short term for farming, and maybe even long term after the events of late, May is in it up to her chin now, she wanteed the backing of the country, and ended up at a loss, not only that, but she has to give in to the dup demands however small, it like fighting with a hand tied behind your back,
her hand in dealing with the brexit has been dealt, instead of holding a couple of Aces, kings and jacks, she is left with some jokers,
as far as the election goes, she lost it unaided,
with the £ falling, import foods will have to increase in price, and this will be passed on to the customer,
it will help home grown foods and demand will increase, thus a rise in prices, all world traded goods will be up for export as the £ falls,
this will last untill some sort of trade deal with the European market is settled,
after that point any restrictions on our sales to eu will effect home prices,
i do think May is on her way out, and if not gone soon, she will be gone by the end of the summer,
who will replace her?, dont know, but Grove will be in the running, and i reaaly think the torys wont run the full term of office,

but remember this, there will be a lift in agricultural off farm sales, but it won't last, and when it falls it will be lower than today's prices,
reason for this is the fact that as we can free trade now, and £ is falling, our exports of the likes of lamb and grain will rise, along with more demand from home market, if tariffs come on, then price will fall,
with no one in full control, the jobs a bad one,

hold on to your hat's, its going to be a roller coaster ride for the next decade

I think (as a suburban type) she really thought mentioning a free vote on hunting when she was so high in the polls was her way of "giving" something to the countryside. Now her latest is giving us Rt Hon M Gove

Neither of which was a good choice,

Lots of people wise after the event, who can blame her for wanting to go to the country ,even though she wasn't supposed to be able to.
I don't recall when the election was announced many tories saying oh oh thats dangerous.
I still think that the terrorist events probably did for her among other things, you can't run a good campaign when you have disasters at your door.

Doesn't she have advisors to advise on that sort of thing?
Ultimately she carries the can as she told her MPs today.

Sadly the quality of "advice" by Special Advisors and main Civil Service officials on anything that affects us; TB / badgers , whatever will be sadly missing the point by the proverbial country mile I would say.

I've seen George Eustace speak a few times and I wouldn't exactly describe his aides (or even some of the vocabulary used) as genuine rural interest

Okay, you may have a point. My understanding of their political leanings was that of being ultra right wing, but this may pertain to their entrenched policy of unionism and their rejection of several liberal social issues, rather than to other political values.
I stand corrected on this if you are better informed than I.
