Cereals
  • US/ China trade negotiations, as well as Brexit, are keeping plenty of uncertainty built into markets into 2019, following on from a turbulent 2018.
  • Wheat prices found support in early trade following news that Algeria, one of the World key importers, had rejected a shipment of Argentine wheat on quality issues, in a year when the market is increasingly reliant on their exports amidst global deficits.
  • Private analysts also estimated that US winter wheat plantings would drop for the 2019 harvest by around 1Mac.
  • The government shutdown in the US is leading to a dearth of data which the market is usually trading. This week's scheduled USDA report has been postponed for now.
  • Black Sea temperatures are forecast to drop to bitterly cold levels in coming days.

Oilseeds
  • Trade talks between the US and China are scheduled to resume this week with soybean traders sensing more positive undertones coming from the discussions.
  • The last meeting between negotiator in Beijing was June-18 and led to little progress being made.
  • OSR values found support from rising soybean and higher crude oil values.
