Pollutionwatch: major sources of air pollution often overlooked

Written by Gary Fuller

The roles of agriculture and home heating in causing particle pollution are often neglected

When I talk to people about air pollution sources they normally blame the nearest busy road.

In new research, 16,000 people were asked where they thought air pollution came from, revealing some important misunderstandings. Respondents from seven European countries were asked to pick the two main sources of air pollution. Top choices everywhere were industry and traffic. However, the reality is very different.

Since you’re here …

… we have a small favour to ask. More people are reading the Guardian than ever but advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. And unlike many news organisations, we haven’t put up a paywall – we want to keep our journalism as open as we can. So you can see why we need to ask for your help. The Guardian’s independent, investigative journalism takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. But we do it because we believe our perspective matters – because it might well be your perspective, too.

If everyone who reads our reporting, who likes it, helps fund it, our future would be much more secure. Support the Guardian – it only takes a minute. Thank you.

It’s not unusual for a journalist to be ‘paid by the word’.
The Guardian on the other hand pays its ‘journalists’ to play Bullsh!tBingo:
Use the words ‘farmers destroying’ and its £50,
‘vegan’ £50,
‘environmental disaster’ £50, etc etc.
Throw in ‘climate emergency’ and it’s a full house £500

As a life long socialist and a onetime reader of the Guardian and the Daily Worker, I gave your open invitaion some thought and without going into too much detail my reply is ............ on your bike mate!

I'm not sure how the farming folk on here will respond; anyone?
