Pool prices

If that's correct, thats shocking.

£225 is roughly where a school child could deliver selling a load a day.
Easy in hindsight eh!
I don't do wheat pools now just sell a bit as we go from when I start drilling until its all gone, then there's only myself to blame.
Harvest '21 is probably the first year I've had a 'mare, wheat will average 195 (which will leave a good margin), sales for this coming harvest are at 225 with about 4.5t/ha committed, I would stop at that but the man who's money it is says we should keep doing a bit as long at its over £300.
I've been caught out before by not selling when there is a good margin to be had.

The yields were not there in august 2021 the people on the ground knew the biggest producing regions had below average yields and there was no carry over stock

2022 the cost of fertiliser will hold yields down every where and then the war

if a pool does not do average of incrementale sales for the trading period the managers need retraining

You'd have to go back to the third week in September 2021 to sell the whole pool at that price, pools are meant to be risk management, a good pool should never hit the top of the market or the bottom.

If I'm holding grain on farm until the end of March I'd hope that was for good reason.

Clive might have something to say re Frontier's pool result.....
I think anyone would, look at the ex Farm prices for the period.

Thats not very impressive either, iirc Feed WW was about £180/t off the combine mid-August.

@Adeptandy you must have the Barley price there?
£204 straight of combine is so far our worst sale from yr21 harvest wheat and our best sale ever for pre xmas sales and currently best so far is £325 unfortunately havnt done so good with couple of load barley at harvest , but worst timed sale was feed barley £210 just before it took of a couple of months ago sold just to clear it out £100 missed in a fortnight. I should stop thinking of it as a cinderella crop to enable osr sowing, another lesson learnt

I tried pools once, never again.
They're handy if you want to blame someone else! When I tried them I could always better it. Because I sell early I miss out on any last minute rallies but then I am fixing into those prices for the following season IYSWIM, menas I miss out on the way up but also not caught on the way down. If the price being offered is truly horrendous I hang off selling though, e.g if wheat average for 1 year was 125 but following season is offering 100 but fundamentals point in a different way then I alter my strategy slightly.
I've always found trading on hindsight is the most successful option! :) 🤦‍♂️

There are farmer run pools available where the members set a value for a proportion to be sold at.
