Brits have been told that sandwiches, wraps and salads are being removed from supermarket shelves after an E.coli outbreak - and an official list of the products recalled has now been released

Officials said the move by manufacturers Greencore Group and Samworth Brothers Manton Wood was a “precautionary measure”. The products being recalled by Greencore include sandwiches, wraps and salads sold at supermarkets Sainsbury’s, Asda, Aldi, Morrisons, Co-op, and retail pharmacy chain Boots. Samworth Brothers Manton Wood is recalling various Tesco and One Stop sandwiches and wraps. It is understood that further product recall notices from other manufacturers will be issued shortly.

Darren Whitby, head of incidents at the Food Standards Agency, said: “Sandwich manufacturers are taking a precautionary measure to recall various sandwiches wraps and salads in response to findings from investigations by the Food Standards Agency (FSA), Food Standards Scotland (FSS) and UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA), who are working to identify the cause of an ongoing outbreak caused by shiga toxin-producing E.coli (Stec).”

Greencore Group said in a statement: “As a precautionary measure, we have voluntarily recalled a number of sandwiches and wraps due to a potential food safety risk. Greencore adheres to the highest standards of food safety, and we are working closely with the Food Standards Agency and our suppliers to better understand the possible source of any potential issue.”

Tesco, Sainsbury's, Aldi and Asda in huge food recall amid E.coli outbreak
A Samworth Brothers Manton Wood spokesperson said: “The Food Standards Agency has advised the supplier of a salad ingredient which we use in a small number of products that it should undertake a product withdrawal and recall. Meanwhile, food chain investigations are being carried out, which have not yet reached any conclusions. A small number of sandwich and wrap lines that are made at our Manton Wood site are being recalled as a precautionary measure to ensure a high level of health protection for consumers. No other Manton Wood products are affected.”

What happened to taking home made sandwiches to work along with a flask of tea. No wonder there is a cost of living crisis.
Don’t know how to be frugal more like.
A costa and a sandwich every day must top £40 a week.
funnily enough Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall was on earlier a river cottage repeat about just that subject.. he went into to bristol ,an office block iirc. to change the workers attitude towards the so called boring sandwhich for lunch...

Chap i know had a re-think after he worked out how much his 2 costa coffees a day were costing. Say £3:50 a pop that’s easily £1500 a year allowing the odd day off.

I honestly don’t know what this coffee culture is about. How have people sleepwalked into this routine? Any time I’ve had one of these coffees they taste like sh!t and yet people queue for ages every day because it’s the done thing. What makes them willingly hand over all this money and waste so much of their day? Oh, better have a muffin or doughnut with that, and then they wonder why they're gaining weight but losing money.

I do like a coffee and cake so can’t really complain too much, although most of my coffee is made on the aga and mrs bg does a fine cake.

Don’t get too excited it’s all farm product at some point. I used to supply a dairy that put a lot of milk into multiple coffee chains, it’s a vast amount. Just cut throat on the purchasing.

I’ve got this image of folk getting up, first thing on a Sunday at 10.30, getting half dressed, dressing gown and Ugg boots, walk through kitchen (past kettle, cups, cupboards etc), into car, drive 2miles, perhaps a bit of road rage as not had the caffeine hit yet, queue up at the drive thru, drive home, spot more road rage, then back into house and sit down next to the kettle, cups and cupboards with biscuits and bread in them, and sip away at a lukewarm overpriced beverage whilst the kettle and cups just sit there looking on, pondering their existence.
