Porridge oats

Does anyone do this or know of anyone doing it on a small scale? Marketing it themselves with a local brand for example?
I imagine getting the husk of the oat is a hard part?
Just been chatting tonight about diversifying and this came up.

No, or if they are they are hiding themselves very well! Have just been googling to find someone who mills a premium porridge oat so that I can buy a big bulk bag. Supermarket oats are generally dusty and rubish. We eat a lot of oats! Incidentally, We buy our bread flour in bulk from shipton mill, I have seen oats on their list, but not the porridge kind, good luck with it!

Something we have been looking into, only scratching the surface at the mo, but due to the Wife becoming Gluten intolerant a year ago we now eat a lot of oats, annoyingly there's very little we grow now that she can eat, so it has focused the mind to our current farming set up, tried Soya last year, but not on our soil, failed spectacularly , now looking at Oats on a field that has failed with OSR, if we can grow them, going to look into the possibility of processing them as well :)

Yes I think this was it, http://www.golspiemill.co.uk/default.htm It showed the guy making peasemeal, and his wife cooked some for Sarah..

Sorry if Golspie is actually nowhere near you - anything north of about Dingwall is just all "the far north" to me :)

I grew up on what would have been a miller's croft, the mill was all still mostly complete including the water-wheel (although dis-used) so I found the programme interesting

These are the boys n girls you want for your wife, mine is also a Coeliac and struggled to find stuff she likes, choice is getting better now.
