What spec and costs will I end up at?

Not done any before but think it will look smarter than netting on farm lane.

What's price difference going to be cheap sh!t to creosote or whatevers best.

Probably looking at 150m plus

125mm x 75mm x 1800mm creosote posts circa £10/each
87mm x 38mm x 3600mm creosote rails circa £6/each

Posts @ 1.8m spacing with 4 rails= £12.22/m excl. fixings +labour

Don't use cheap rubbish, it costs the same to put up as cresoste but lasts a third of the time.

I was tempted by 3 rail? I will be putting electric on it, as much as anything to continue the loop to elsewhere, no sheep anyway.

I was thinking it would be similar money to sheep netting and barb but look nicer

Three rail, creosoted 15 yr guarantee £15 / m. It keeps suckler cows with calves in place with no added wire, but they are placid. Standard stock netting with two strands barbed on top is £7.50 / m. I only use post and rail on entrance drive and round house as it looks nicer.

Or post and rail is good for short bits where the topography doesn't lend itself to post and wire, or for very short bits say between a field corner and gateway.

My parents bought some for their driveway from these guys over 15 years ago, galvanised stuff, and it looks as good today as it did when erected. Its a very good system that has posts you drive into the ground and rails that slide into pre-cut slots and lock in with pins, its very easy to put up, we did it ourselves. No welding required. You can do the whole thing with a string line and hand held post rammer.

Post and 4 rail looks better than 3
4 rail isn’t lamb proof, you could put stock net on the back of it or run a plain wire between the bottom rails, or just do it 5 rails and do proper job to start with especially when you have to look at it everyday

I've had quite a bit of 3 rail fencing done over the last few years, all creosoted with stock fence under the lower 2 rails, and I reckon it costs me about £17/metre all in. Rails are about £6 each, posts £8-50 (if bought in bulk), netting 85p/metre, so cost for 3.6m worth is about £38, or £11-50/metre. Erection cost is about £5-6/m, my contractor will do 50-60m/day (more if simple straight runs) and charge £300 per day. Thats with me doing all the site prep work, sourcing materials and delivering to the job.

Are the prices quoted for round or square post and rail?
We've got a local contractor coming this weekend to price up a short (75-100m) run, to fence off a patch of garden in a field. It will also be backed with chicken netting to make it poultry and dog proof. He's told us round is slightly cheaper and easier to erect.

Your top rail will fall off round posts in time
