Post Knocker

Hello,

I have to do a fair bit of stock fencing / gate posts etc, so the time has come to buy a post knocker - whereby the first price in is £6k inc vat as I am not Vat reg (240kg weight, Tele, Slew, Rock Spike etc), whereby I was wondering what other comparible options do I have, as there are no second hand units available that I can see around?

You've mentioned the VAT thing before, and I'm curious - is there any reason why you're not registered? I'm struggling to think of a reason why not, for any sort of agricultural enterprise. PM if you prefer, or just tell me to buggeroff.

I can understand the need for some extra options on dodgy ground, i have a fairly basic model (2.5k+vat) and even though our ground is not terrible i cannot come at posts perpendicular to the ground fall because there's not enough travel on the side tilt

No I do not mind telling you in the open, nothing to hide here (y)

We are not from a farming background, and we do not currently farm exactly, we are getting into farming in a circular way via horses. We will be adding Sheep etc shortly to be part of the bigger picture, to help us keep the land in order by grazing, adding organic matter to the fields etc - plus also help with helping remove the worm burden on the horses further.

We do faecal analysis of horses manure to measure egg counts - as we do not does to a regime, as it is not needed. So in essence - the farming is coming about as a result of the move to a home with land.

Hopefully this answers your question, but please do come back if you need any additional clarification :)

Use the sledge as the “post knocker”

Oh OK - thank you.

I would rather use the manual post knocker I already have than swing a hammer and in this ground it will not go very well, plus the amount of posts we have to do would be rediculous to even contemplate manual intervention.

How many posts do you have to do? Best thing is to ring Andy at Protech, he'll sort you out with a new machine direct off them or they usually have a few trade ins at the bottom of the yard.

I'll second Protech was looking for a used knocker priced up with them and it was a no brainer buying new.
We ended up with a loader mounted one with hyrdraulic side tilt rock spike and 350kg weight and it's a great bit of kit would highly recommend if you have a good loader tractor.

Get a contractor in to do it.

Unfortunatley not an option any longer, as I am getting fed up with being bottom of the pile through their workload - so going more self reliant.
Got a manege to rebuild so all the P+R on there to do, then around the boundary of several fields, plus repair the actual P+R paddocks, so in essence - several hundred posts need doing, hence not an option by hand.
