Need a post knocker, what fo I go for?

Want one I can use myself easily without getting in and out 5 times per post. It will be on fair size tractors so needs plenty of offset.
Most of the work will be Clipex beefy posts and box shaped crash barriers for strainers, on heavy clay. No stone at all round here.

Protech have recommended a P300S+, does the forum agree? Are there any options worth having? What are Protech like to deal with, and what other companies / models are worth considering?

I am considering a post knocker but can’t see past the benefits of having it on the front of the pivot steer telehandler. Can push in longer posts without having to have a telescopic mast, can fence over ditches and hedges. Wouldn’t work so well on a side loader but the pivot would give lots of adjustability and would only need thumper control in the cab and not much else.

Go for a protech, the 120 degree slew is great . Means you can get in anywhere. Bryce is a bloody good knocker but it lacks the manoeuvre ability of the Protech . Ordered my one and was delivered in 4 weeks. Now on to my 2nd Protech and always had good service from them

The P200S with telescopic offset will do what you want on clay.

Protech are a first class firm to deal with and a excellent product !

That was quick!

P300s here, one serious bit of kit, well over the top for us but can't see it depreciating much

Had price for new last October, been looking at second hand at sales all winter and they’re all either worn out or only a few £ below new price. Seem a bit like trailers in that respect.

In my experience it's too far away from the cab to properly see what is happening

We bought a p500 from protech last year haven’t really done a great deal with it yet but it’s a very impressive machine can’t comment on what they are like against other makes but thought the man I dealt with was spot on I think it was Andy always returned calls and very helpful

We work a Bryce Suma machine. Sideshift, Backshift, Mast tilt, Top link tilt, Hydraulic jack legs. Great machine to operate, once you get in a rhythm you’re not long in chapping in a few posts. The “Jock’s Handicap” cup for square or round posts is a big help in stabilising and making minor adjustments if the post goes a little off centre during the chapping. Would highly recommend one.

We had a basic Twyman post rammer on the front of our pivot steer telehandler and coped well with it for many years. Like you said it has many advantages but we have now upgraded to a Protech P300S and couldn't be happier with it. Took a bit of getting used to but it does a much better job than the old one. The problem with the telehandler is you had to approach the fence straight on whereas with the Protech you can drive down the fence line, making much less damage in winter (when we do most of our fencing!).
