Post Referendum and Britain is still in the EU

Ok, to discuss the others scenario to the Britain is out thread.

It's now 2021. It's five years since Britain has voted overwhelmingly to remain in the EU. Cameron has left the stage and largely pushed Blair off the after dinner speech circuit. Merkel has retired and writing her memoirs. Boris ... well nobody knows where the hell he vanished to.

Meanwhile middle England has carried on as normal.
Farm incomes do what they have done for ever .... Somehow keep grub on the table and shiney kit in the yard.

What the flaming hell was the referendum about in the first instance?[emoji10]

Dont care if we vote to stay in the EU I will be long gone before 2021.

In 2021 in the Remain scenario Scotland has still not had indyref 2.

But the economy is growing steadily and the Scottish Government has found innovative new ways of working within the expanded powers it has.


The UKIPers are still around but though somewhat deflated they console themselves with their salaries and pensions from the EU.

Brexiters still blame the Scots for swinging the vote to Remain and whine endlessly about it.

Boris will be tory leader regardless of what happens at the referendum, the tory party traditionally votes for the eurosceptic candidate, hence cameron winning in 05' and who else can even come close to him?

Sfp in real terms will be lower, more modulation while the same red tape in place, going on the 10 year average of exports to the eu we will be selling them less and more to the outside world.

God knows about our economy as boom and bust is at the end of it's natural cycle nearly now since the last crash, while the likes of rbs are losing 1 billion quid even in the good times

Unless we embrace this referendum and get out of the EU what is the point.

The British people are by Heritage, Islanders, that is part of our being.
In simple terms, the EU is about being on a World stage Politically, that is why we know in our hearts we should be out, but fear of the unknown may let the head win.
Last night's question time summed it up well, the loyal Conservative politician trying her hardest to scare us all into believing it will take up to a decade to re-negotiate trade deals....what twaddle. As the lady Entrepreneur at the other end of the table stated, this is two way street, with many key suppliers and manufacturers in Europe sending goods to the UK.

The Federalisation of Europe is not good for us in the UK, having a combined economy the size of the US and ' grabbing ' countries before the Russians are there first.
Monetary Union will not, and cannot work unless we have economic Union, unless of course we have a Euro Currency for every member state. How can a Union work when one member has an average National income 10 times greater than another, where would you go ?

The World is changing, what was the affluent West is over, the World Powerhouse is now China, like it or not, we can bark on about human rights all we like, it does not change the fact, they have the Worlds money.

The EU is a fat lazy lumbering beast that tries to protect itself with rules and regulations that we don't like but can do nothing about. Within the EU we have massive over production and surplus that has been dumped on the World market anywhere and everywhere. We (the EU) make the last round of sanctions on our Russia even tighter, and as farmers we know the results as commodity prices plummet. We blame others (like China) who are gearing up to meet demand (from Russia) and once that market has gone, only politics will get it back.

There are 60m people on this little Island, with 5% unemployment that is a hell of a lot of tax revenue. Our economy would flourish outside the EU as we are well placed to export our goods and services worldwide.

Time to bite the bullet and make the right decision for our Children's future..................OUT !!

I sometimes get the feeling that folk think there is a great big EU hand stopping our plucky exporters from selling anything. With a number of marked exceptions there is nothing stopping them currently. On the other hand I also wonder when people talk about 50% of UK exports coming into Europe what are they, German and French Cars assembled in the UK? In my unscientific observations I see more stuff from New Zealand than the UK and lots from Holland, Italy and Germany.

As an example how have the ag machinery manufacturers on the island of Ireland as a whole been so successful on the export markets. Think McHales, Keenan's, Abbey, Major in the ROI.
Think McKenna, McCauley, Redrock, NC in the north.
These guys manage to export to EU, USA and NZ / Australia.

EU I dare say has been more help than hindrance.

Not True EFTA states can use CE which if UK came out the EU they would rejoin. IOM and Channel Islands can already use CE even though there outside EU.

will I, I wish I could agree, but like most things EU, not managed or policed. Many goods entering the EU from outside have a CE sticker however many fail to comply with the regulation relative to the product. and, unless it ends up in court, no one gives a damn either.

all goods from outside the EU have to be CE marked with the relevant agreement number, if they are not, they are not allowed into the european union country of entry, The french ports are very meticulous compared to the light touch controls else where, The importers here face many more controls than the UK

Pity your not as vigilant at your roads borders, maybe then you wouldn't have an many arms in your Country...
