Sonoftheheir is having a good year. So far.

I am currently harvesting Agria.
Seed won’t let go of stems so constent blocking of multi sep.

Full of 2nd growth & growth cracks, watered in front of harvester not much fun.
We had similar problem with green top Markies, topped them as low and tight as we dare even twice if needed, remove haulm very gradually ie have first haulm roller in lowest position and as tight as possible and fast as possible so it does not block but abstracts very little.First multisep rollers again set very close and low and fast so they don't try to grab haulm and cause bunching and blockages.Secound multisep slightly higher and wider to take out remaining haulm. If you have clod mat and or haulm fingers on main web you could try these gently agitating crop so to get some stolen release but they may block and bunch haulm and damage potatoes.Haulm can be very tricky and frustrating but there is usually away.Good luck.

Yes I agree.
Ended up with 1st Haulm roller 75% in lowest setting which is 40% on mine.
1st multsep low & tight. 2nd 10% up & away.
2nd Haulm roller with crop flow. My thoughts here to reduce nipping when crop plugs & builds up on multisep.
Sometimes need to flick rev or transfer.

Found two rots in the Agria store this evening, and they were rotten as sh**

Didn’t see one when harvesting.

Performer had lots in the field, I think down to blackleg. Most rotted already, but the odd one got through to shed filling.

This 19c temp tonight must be a record for October?

We were looking over a box when started Agria, found one that finger went into that looked ok on first glance.
Yield 9tpa, if we took growth cracks out maybe 7 tpa.
Siggitta 12 tpa

It’s bad.
Last year we had 5tpa too much.

Latest Potato weekly - poor demand, crops are generally of good quality.

Makes my blood boil.
Same here demand well down. A local grower has 1000 acres and usually stores none. He’s filled someone else’s 2000 ton store and still 500 acres to lift the factories don’t want them :cautious::((n)

Trust me when I say there’s plenty storage.

Filled 5 sheds last year, won’t fill two this season. Sadly.
At least all free buy.

that said most farmers can prob rent out 100 acres of their own but if your growing them u could rent a few hundred acres and make a bit on that, £135/t growing cost could be lowered if you just did your own ground yourself with old kit all the same?

Where are your costings to say "rent a few hundred acres and make a bit on that"?

His growing costs are pretty accurate. Growing on your own ground with old kit isn't as easy as you make it sound.

Again, depends on the market you are aiming for and your available time. On paper, old kit looks cheap. In reality, it breaks down a lot and can have some huge repair/maintainance costs. If your old harvester damages the potatoes one season by bruising, scuffing, hairline cracks. Then whole crop needs consigned to the stockfeed pile.

Old kit still has to be replaced at some point.
