My wife always buys piper for preference, but she tells me no more, as she has had 3 lots with bad internal problems in the last few weeks. Whether she will get on any better with other varieties time will tell, but it bodes badly for storage

@Honest john I don’t want to be a doom munger, but there’s already more rots here than last year. Even on the earlier harvested stuff. I have very dry performer harvested in September that have rots showing up now. Looks like bacterial rot due to black leg. And these didn’t show at all at harvest. Trouble is their skins are very thin and the spuds are huge.

Several in Agria too, and Rock have them.
At present Sagitta don’t seem too bad.

Apart from the Agria that were full of blackleg in the field the rest didn’t look bad at all. It wasn’t till I was burning down that you could see the odd stalk that had died off early in the Rock and Performer.

We are going have a look around this afternoon.

I my experience 2 years, a Performer always has black leg in it. Sadly as it’s a good spud.

Agria I have thrown in the towel on.

The sh!t has hit now with NFU speaking up on TV.

But harvest costs are going to be at least double & the knock on to the damage to fields to consider.

We're south hereford and have 120 acres left out of 1000. All the worse and wettest ground aswell. Managed to do 10 acres yesterday but 3 sides of the headland was wrote off. Had 2" rain today and still raining, cant see it going again until mid next week at earliest

Heard this afternoon that 200 for decent Markies and 250 for premium Agria a week or so ago on the fens has turned into 250/300 now.

Wasn’t expecting prices at that level until the new year........

240 for markies this week. What will they be next? I think that people are finally seeing that there is a big problem out there and that the prices will rise quickly.

The trade are resigned to a £ 300 year now for good chipping gear.

Some beds are a very sorry sight round here after yesterday. There are some big fields around here totally untouched. Destined for mccain normally. I remember 09 when we had crop stuck in all winter around here. Think it set in around 27th Nov. Wonder if I can dig the posts up on the old bff
