This secondary growth thing is a bit of a worry, this potato was on a root in the middle of the field

And these have been irrigated every week. It was dry as a bone though.

@Fubar did you fazor yours?
Looking at mind tomorrow. Dreading what I'm going to find.
Didn't fazor in the end. Crop is too stressed already. Don't need fazor for storage. Was going to use it to try andprevent secondary growth. Doubt the spuds are big enough anyway!
Don't know about secondary growth. It would be nice to have a bit of primary growth!!

Correct assessment of where we are ATM.

Now it’s cooled & rains are arriving we are going to have to look at crops & take some tough calls.

On some it may be best to kill off & take what’s there, others let run & harvest the 2nd growth.

There will be floaters glsssy potato’s etc IMO.

The seed? I store everything in Coldstore as dug, grade as I need it, sell the stuff first that I want seed from and put seed back in store.

How many years can you do this?

We haven’t got a cold store, but have to keep the stores at 8c for frying. So that may make things more difficult.

I’m not using Fazor to control secondary growth, just for storage. We have two stores where we can’t gas as we use them for combinable crop storage. Agronomist just said it may control some secondary growth.

How much rain did you get @Honest john ? I’ve heard some got 40mm, we had 20mm in the end.

Well there you go. Mr Gove delivers on his promises. Drought summit. EA rescinds restriction to let irrigation commence. And he as a man of action he organises 40mm across the area from the heavens. I shall follow than man into the future - he is godlike.

Does anyone know which packer packs Markies,I am sure some do but can't remember who.

They will pack just about anything if they are short. Otherwise I can't imagine there will be many at all. Can't see many shops having them on their suppliers list.

Are they not suitable for crisping or chipping?

Haven't seen this for a while.
21mm over the weekend and it's done the world of good.
Just hope the spuds put the effort into bulking what is already there and not secondary growing.
