Why are markies so dear. I think they're awful chips, or was I unlucky with a bad lot
Usually a pretty reliable fry come the end of the season is the main USP espcially with a growing number of chippies staffed by those without the skills to handle a sample with a marginal fry colour. Some regions do prefer a drier chip too I guess so that won't bother them as much.

Going forward (especially if there is a similarly wet autumn) the challenge for many strong growing late maturity varieties will be how to get them fully matured and skin set in good time, without the aid of diquat...............

Local chip shop paying £9 a bag for Markies through a merchant in Glasgow, delivered to NE Scotland. I might start bagging some once we get finished exporting seed.

I always use Markies for chips for home cooking, can never get my piper to fry up here .

@riverside2 i’d put Rock in that late maturing bracket, would you? Ours need to be spaced further too when you compare size with the other varieties we have.
Definitely a maincrop variety that need enough room and time to bulk out, wouldn’t be classed as late as Markies though with a slightly higher dry matter profile too. Plants whilst robust are not usually in full canopy as late either so hopefully we can still see good results and skin set with next season’s dessication methods ?

Got £250 this week. But I’m hearing that medium - large farmer not too far away is starting at £260. Markies as well. So I might have to ask for another tenner. [emoji6] How is it going @Sonoftheheir?
