Potato Quality

The quality in supermarkets leaves a lot to be desired.
The problem (IMO ) is the spuds are lifted with a harvester into boxes/ trailers , then dumped into a hopper, graded, dumped back into boxes.....lot's of opportunities for bruising.
Waiting for skins to set....a nice opportunity to go green with large yields creating cracks in ridges letting light in.
Washed spuds in plastic bags on lit shelves......hmmmm.
Modern varieties.......some nice, some spectacularly tasteless.
Can't really beat freshly dug ( carefully ) spuds eaten the same day. Impractical, I know.

I was hoping to buy Dutch seed this spring.

Does anybody know to any Ramos or Markies seed in the UK with no issues with blackleg.

Im sure there’s some out there, but I haven’t seen any in the last few years.

I see the government is shouting about seed potatoes from the EU in the fallout over shellfish so if the tit for tat wars start maybe not.

I used to say a meal wasn't complete without potatoes, not any more, what's available these days are mostly tasteless.

Until 3 years ago I grew enough at home to keep us almost through the year, but my back can't stand the digging anymore, plus not being able to find the varieties I wanted.

I’ve 45ac of Markies seed with no blackleg, unfortunately I can’t sell direct as it’s all on contract to Agrico. I can understand buying Dutch seed is some susceptible blackleg varieties but not Markies.

The only way the EU will let us export our seed to them is if we firstly ban theirs and then do a deal.
Piper, Markies and Charlotte are best eating that I grow.
