We're seasoned users of sawdust based broiler litter, and get on well with it.
Just been offered some layer muck from a tiered free range unit. I can't see any reason why it'll be alot different other than DM. How does it compare nutrient wise ?
Is there anything else i need to be aware of ?
Thanks S

Nothing wrong with it , plenty of lime and calcium, don't think it would be as power full as broiler litter as the hen has took a lot of energy out of it to make the egg, but still good gear, If it's coming out of a tiered house you won't get any dead birds with it

Have a mate with a couple of laying hens sheds ...spreading it accurately is the key otherwise it just burns when spread on grass.

comming from a laying house it should have no dead birds in it, broiler would be higher risk for that.

wouldnt be much shaving in it as most i know of have slates in them and the only bit is a scratch area that might get any bedding, so in my experiencce it is pure dung.

What sort of money is layers muck costing, either collected at the farm or delivered 5 to 10 miles?
