Power harrow pto speed and forward speed

I've said this before but think that a drillmate type cultivator would often make more sense than a power harrow in many light land situation
I disagree to a certain extent, a power harrow is far more versatile. Not many want to swap from a power harrow and chuck a drill mate under. Not many have all light land across an entire field.
After ploughing power harrow goes straight in, same with mintil and minmintil the power harrow handles residue and trash.

Although I agree about the power harrow being king, in varying conditions They are to power hungry and soil damaging for my liking.
Also my Vaddy handles the trash pretty well ;)

Yes it does and would argue the vaddy can be just as 'good' as a power harrow except you cant lift them up on the headlands or soft spots. Seen a few vaddys dig a new pond round here in the past. ;)

Yes I am following the mounted vaddy restoration with interest and you have to know when to leave it in the shed. I still have my 4m combi waiting in the wings but it grieves me to use it, actually that's not true I thoroughly enjoy using it, it grieves me filling the tractor up with diesel. Half the output for twice the fuel, but it does do a good job,

Remember a man taking the power harrow to a field and starting to work and the pto shaft came off the first time he lifted it at the end, he didn't notice until the field was finished  wonder how he charged for that

I knocked the PTO out by accident with 4m combi last backend going up the field. The drag was very noticable wen 165hp went on its knees almost instantly.

I’m surprised how many still don’t know how to set up a power harrow properly.( They been out for years .)
I have seen tractors on there knees ,power harrowing set up all wrong And with just a little bit of alteration, and using the right tines for the job in hand will make a big difference and make a better job .

It depends on many factors

Soil flow and clod behaviour is far better with the trough tipped back slightly - the clods are kicked forward for another go, and the fine stuff goes out unde rthe clod board and away. Said clodboard should be just low enough to leave a level finish and hold clods in long enough to disolve sufficiently. Depth has less effect on power consumption than soil flow

Wet soil doesn't flow like dry soil. Damp fluffy sand won't flow at all, so put the packer down and lift the clod board a bit so things are firmer and flow better.

Rotor speed is dictated by clod smash required and soil flow to an extent. Personally if the seedbed barely needs a tickle and full power harrow speed is 1000rpm on the pto, put it in 540 and keep the revs up, or you'll run out of power trying to go faster and it'll just be frustration you don't need.
