Power Harrow

I have a kuhn 3003 that required open heart surgery last year. I never would have thought that to replace a bearing and seal that one would have to dismantle the entire power harrow into pieces. Is there a heavy duty harrow that does not require that level of work to maintain a wearing part. It was a royal pain in the butt is all I can say not to mention that I noticed that it’s leaking again after having done just 20 acres.

Kuhn have a reputation of being very good power harrows though.....

Yeah until a bearing goes and spreads throughout the bed and eats the gears!! By the time you repair it u may as well have scrapped it because of the amount of time involved!!

lely 45 series well built bearings can be replaced easy without splitting .having said that I've got 3 of them and never needed to but have done a few on our old 33 series

Lemken easy to work on, replaced bearings on a lemken a few years ago incidentally nothing was wrong just precautionary really, grease in the bed and sealed bearings with no actual extra oil seal just the bearings. Nut on top of rotor under a cap and gears slide out the end of bed.

The very issue of a complete disassembley of a machine seems like a major design flaw in what may well be a brilliant machine. 14k euros plus vat is what I’m told a new 3004 costs? Does that sound right.

Bloody typical.
Ran Amazone combi’s for over 20 years and now Lemken. All the while it’s been Kuhn,Kuhn,Kuhn on these forum for years whenever what power harrow question is asked.
Local dealer just lost Amazone & picked up Kuhn agency instead and just got an hr304 delivered last week only to now read this about them:rolleyes:

Never had to touch any of the Amazones or the Lemken so far for anything. will be very pee’d off if I have to on the Kuhn.

We have a couple of Kuhn power harrows and I have to say they are a terrible design if you do have to replace anything internally- we have had one open twice and I can see it needs splitting again due to small oil leak around one rotor. Will not buy another if they don’t seriously change the design.

Ours dropped a time holder out...........

Dismantled the whole thing (has a venta drill piggybacked on it), took best part of a day, then a half day to get the headstock off and into the bed. No damage, the retaining nut had worked loose and come off [emoji35][emoji35][emoji35][emoji35][emoji35].

Even the bearing was fine. So for literally a 5min repair, it took 3days. .

Between that palaver and the drill being a pain in the erse (think dick Turpin is in charge of Kuhn spare parts, a lot of which are funny sizes and not available from generic suppliers) will be looking elsewhere next time.

And yes, all the nuts were slack and we did tighten them when the lid was off.

Was looking at my Amazone the other day, it’s weeping from a rotor, it looks like a big job to get into it..... I was going to chance another season out of it......

Kuhn, Amazone, Lemken, all sound machines. Yes it can be a faff to get into some of them, but on the whole they are a lot more reliable than some. I would not buy anything else.

Surely Mr Guest and associates can supply bits for Kuhn powerharrows?

Maschio also worth a look but never had to do any work on one.
