PPA renewal

Getting phone calls from companies wanting to put me on the govt's export price. Never considered it til this year. May well end up doing it because it's 5.5 p/unit (for wind). The way prices are currently it's a no brainer. Biggest problem is that it's paid quarterly along with the actual FIT payment. Not the end of the world but annoying for cashflow.

I'm also on a limejump tracker but never that bad. 3.5 to 4p recently. I'd jump to export tariff if I could get 5.5, but I was in earlier so 3.4? is all I can get. Trouble is the suppliers are now wise to this, so aren't incentivised to offer a better PPA.

Limejump were going to pocket the imbedded benefits for customers on export tariff - nice reinvention of the business model.

I don't see much improving in the short/medium term.

What is this “ Gov’t export price “ mentioned earlier?
This is the guaranteed price set for FIT producers who export.
early FIT contracts were set at about 3.8p but later ones about 5.2p
these firgures are from the top of my head so may not be quite correct.
these prices are a minimum price and until recently , most of us have been getting more as there has been a demand for green power. However this market has collapsed since the new year.

How far into the future are government fixed prices guaranteed for?

So these prices cover routine maintenance and still allow for a profit?

Are you thiking of the SmartExport Guarantee. This offers a long term fixed contract for smaller producers with a meter capable of reading export. Prices I have seen vary from 4-5.5 pence / unit.
certainly not sufficient to justify investment on its own.
i have seen no details regardingbthe differnttype of metering since HH metering for any install which has one , will cost £300 - 375 a year on its own. That could be 10,000 units before you start getting an income:(

I have been offered 5.5p on the government export price through Opus, but there are no embedded benefits on this, and quarterly payment, my existing PPA doesn't end until August so i will sit tight for a while. Quarterly payments is a real problem for me, last year I finally got my FIT on monthly which has helped my cashflow no end, why do they expect us to take our payment quarterly, when everything else in the business world is 30 days.

How have you got your FITs on monthly?!?

But do you know how they'vre done this exactly since they get paid quarterly by the govt? It sounds like they're basically acting like a bank and deducting interest through a lower PPA price? Is that basically the top and the bottom of it? I'm not sure it's a great business model if we all demanded it.

Last year we took the time to research alternative ways to generate income with our renewable and ended up investing in data servers. We got upto 40p per KW - that figure does vary but the lowest we have had is 15p - still considerably better than what was being offered to us by other companies. Another advantage is that the servers pay you daily as they pay you in tokens and you can then choose when to cash them into your bank account.

Considerably? I'll say. Any more info please?

So if you are contracted with your FIT you can still use data servers to monetise any excess electric you produce and it doesn't effect any other contract you have in place for export. Another advantage being that if you have a larger scale set up of RE like on a farm you can claim VAT back and Capital investment allowance as all your investing in is computer hardware. Super easy to set up as well, you just plug and play and leave them running while you crack on with your normal work so overall it is very easy and user friendly you don't need to be a rocket scientist!

Bit coin mining perhaps?
most exports for sun and wind production are of course very variable and don‘t suit that sort of work unless you are prepared for some expensive energy bills
