The original winch is slightly offset on the frame in any case. I just modified the handle so that it cleared the frame, from memory it was a case of straightening the original bend and putting another in a bit further back. Still easy enough to wind up though.

When my Prattley winch failed (probably 15 years ago) I just replaced it with a similar type off eBay, and extended the handle as above. It's just a winch, it doesn't have to be a special one imported from NZ.
If I was replacing one now, I think I'd be tempted to stick a cheap electric winch on instead though.

Yes, just what I was telling myself yesterday. I've put it firmly on my 'to do' list.
There is a 12v supply on the quad & the pick up, so easy enough to rig something up, whichever is towing it. One day...
