Bosch VP44 on the very early 20’s and it was hellish unreliable especially if the fuel isn’t 100% it’s basically a sh!te pump! the rest of the engine is pretty much same as a 10 series though.
If I remember right it was the end of 2004 and into 2005, most 04 20 series will have the old 2 valve engine and most 06 will be common rail 4 valve. 05 you’d need to look under the bonnet to be sure. What year did they change to common rail? Might be looking for one later in the year and it pays to know these things, cheers
I’m not sure that’s correct. Mine are both common rail and 53 and 04 reg. I think they changed end 03 time.If I remember right it was the end of 2004 and into 2005, most 04 20 series will have the old 2 valve engine and most 06 will be common rail 4 valve. 05 you’d need to look under the bonnet to be sure.
There was a couple of minor changes to the common rail engines later in production but it’s nothing that you’d notice at a glance and doesn’t affect performance.
That’s what I said, the change was 04/05 so you will be able to find common rail on 04 and you’ll fine vp44 on 05 it just depends when it was registered. Remember tractors are only registered when sold so stock tractors can be sat in a dealers yard for some time. serial number is the only way to check properly.I’m not sure that’s correct. I have just bought an 03 6920s. When I initially enquired I thought it was 2valve non common rail but it’s definitely common rail. Must be one of the very first. What year did they change to common rail? Might be looking for one later in the year and it pays to know these things, cheers
Must admit I thought along the same lines as you. And got it checked by the dealer as was very close to the changeover.Apologies, just had a look and the change was 03/04 not 04/05 . It is nearly 20 years ago to be fair
I have been giving this one a bit if a birthday as it wanted a few little jobs doing. Put it on the dyno and it was putting out 170hp at the shaft ! Pump untouched from the factory. Further investigation showed that the injectors were past their best and it was over fuelling. But the bullet and treated her to a fresh set. Runs even sweeter now. Hoping to get it back on the dyno soon.Yeah theres an 03 6820 next door to me that's common rail . Pulls very well .
My best pulling JD's have all been from 05 we had a 6420 6920 and a 7820 all 05 55 plates we've never had anything since that would touch them
A lot of folk go on about the 30 series pulling well but a 6920 went every bit as well with no mythical power boost . My 7820 is bloody good 6.8l engine supposed to be 185 hp but will eat every 250hp demo tractor I've ever had on the placeI have been giving this one a bit if a birthday as it wanted a few little jobs doing. My 6620, untouched factory spec 4 valve common rail was dynoed at 150 hp, some output for an engine supposed to be 125 at the crank.I have been giving this one a bit if a birthday as it wanted a few little jobs doing. Peak hp at the engine will have been a little bit higher on a 6620 out the factory probably closer to 140. That’s peak not rated. They usually make a bit more once they get a few hours under there belt.My 6620, untouched factory spec 4 valve common rail was dynoed at 150 hp, some output for an engine supposed to be 125 at the crank.
