Pressure Washer

I have just be given a Yanmar powered/AR pump pressure washer assembled apparently in Wolverhampton. It is 2000 year model. Was told that it would not run. Engine had clean oil and a little fiddling runs well. There is clean oil in the pump BTW. Pump rated to 2500psi.
Hooked to a garden hose it will work but with out much pressure. Could a worn nozzle cause this?
Could a garden hose be insufficient for what looks like a triple piston horizontal pump?
Are the worth/easy to repair or I have seen pumps for around £300.
Can this type of pump draw from a tank?

Thanks
Peter

Is the pump turning?
And you will have a filter somewhere on the inlet pipe (usually), might need a clean?
Usually best to feed them from a tank with plenty of height.
Take the lance and or nozzle off, or open the second nozzle if the lance has two and let the water circulate with no pressure for a bit. This will allow any sticking valves to buck up and start working again. Then see if it will build pressure?
Any air trapped, and it will sit looking at you doing nothing ...........

Yes a worn nozzle will usually cause a slight drop in pressure

Pump is working but pressure poor. I have not tried a different nozzle but having a quick look today the hole looks rather large to me.
Changing the valve (assume for the chemical line) on the lance appeared to cause the engine to load up.
The pump seemed to hunt a little when running, and stronger pressure when first pulling the trigger.

Unscrew the 6 valve caps, 3 suction and 3 pressure. You will see the valves inside.Pull out the valves with a point nose pliers and gently clean them . Be careful with the o rings . Reassemble and test.
AR are a good quality pump, make sure the oil level is correct and they should last a long time.

Is the pressure good for first 10 seconds mine is doing the same as if the pump is starved of water

I do wonder about the water supply as only a garden hose and we have not got brilliant volumes or pressures. Filter OK and mains passes through and does squirt out of lance when trigger pulled (no engine).

Fill a barrell and let it suck it itself , a garden hose won't feed it enough.

As said if you want to eliminate the possibility that it’s water starved from the mains - feed it from the bottom of a filled IBC or barrel with a 3/4” hose running to the inlet.

If the valves (unloader and suction/pressure on the pump head) and any o-rings are checked/replaced and the nozzle body is checked for wear/renewed. Then the pump itself may be worn.

Is the engine now running to full revs 3000-3600 rpm since you brought it back to life?
