Can tanks be hired for £200 a year?
I’m the same with only a third storage I get stung for spring fill, I’d rather have all fert bought early than money in the bank but can’t store ? Suppliers won’t give me bigger tanks .

On a small scale this irked me when we were using liquid. If we ever had to return to that method I would buy the tanks. IMO liquid supplies behave as a cartel, the only response is to switch back some tonnage if you are unhappy.

We purchased our tanks and I’m pleased we did. When we made the change every company we spoke to really wanted to sign us up with a tank deal, they seemed far too keen to tie us in for it to be the best deal.

I've just looked at my tank hire invoices for last year. I've had a credit for the same amount because I bought the liquid from them, so no hire fee this year.

I refuse to believe the fertiliser supplier won't send you more tanks - it's in their interests to be able to deliver throughout the year not in a mad rush March-May. Who do you buy your liquid from? It might be time for a change! Omex, Frontier and Yara all have decent deals on tank supply in an effort to tie you into their products. My buying group make sure the liquid price is the same or better than the competition on the day of placing the order, so I'm not paying over the odds to use their tanks.

Buying your own tanks is the best in the long term because you have full flexibility on suppliers. You've still got to pay for the concrete pads and any bunding you choose to do.

We have had the same issue with Yara. They have given us a tank that is too small but are reluctant to give us a bigger tank.

When we agreed with them the tank was free. They then tried charging us and we said no way then then agreed not to charge us the year. Have to see what they try next year.

We looked at buying a camplas tank. Think is was about 6 or 7k for a 40m3 tank. Not sure what the lifespan is of these tanks. Didn’t want to commit to buying a tank in case liquid didn’t work out.

They look the same as the Chafer streambars, is that the case and if so how much for the set?
They are exactly the same but green, only bought them half way through last season so have done very little work.
£12 each,72 in total including washers and little filters.
£864+vat.

Have applied Black Label with my most recent application of liquid fert .
Will see if it makes any difference to scorch.
ED & F Mann manufacture the product.
Bio stimulant i suppose, but its basically molasses.
Jury is out.

no matter how hard I try I always end up scorching something. Just when I think 'haven't I done well this year' I nail it with the final application. Yara swear that there's no yield penalty, but still spending a fortune keeping leaves green only to burn them off is a bit depressing.

Agroco Umbrella jets sub 2 bar ideally for me, and not after/ during a wind.

As a side note I once put some through a flat fan on some rape at flowering. Small area, and can't quite remember now why I did it. Anyway, not a single leaf survived. Not one! Plants made it through somehow though.
What height do you run your umbrellas at, I think it’s a year for scorch anyway but I went a bit higher this year after I was told they work better higher, I’ve tipped on both passes so far.

At what rate do you add Molasses L/cube?
Do you just add it when filling the sprayer?
Do you use it for every application of liquid or just the last one?

I do 5-6l/ha, pour it in as the sprayer fills up and use it on every application of liquid.
I've got a bit of tipping on my Elicit Wheat where the wind got up a bit as I was finishing off some fields but other than that all ok here.

Slightly off topic. Is anyone getting part loads of liquid fert. We ended up ordering ours in multiples of 30 as 30m3 tank (first year of fert) and have had a part load delivered. My issue is the tanker didn’t have a meter and the driver made a guess by using the 5m3 markers on the side of the tank as to how much we had. I realise we could be under or over charged. It’s just seems very inaccurate way of doing things. Think next year we will just order in loads.

Yes, to complete a big order - 374m3 (485 tonnes) of total spring deliveries here. Normally, Yara don't do split loads but it has happened occasionally.

Seems a bit unprofessional by them, surely you can be 100 litres out very easily, great if you get extra but not so fun if you lose out.
